I picked up a JDM B16a from an XSi with less than 45k miles on it for $600 and so couldnt turn it down and i also got the Y1 cable tranny with it plus harness/ecu/drives etc, its going into an EG4 shell along with the XSi harness/ECU etc etc. The EG4 originally had a hydro tranny and so has all the ancillaries for a hydro tranny. I have a Y21 tranny earmarked but need to know if it will bolt to the B16 which originally ran a cable tranny, or would it be easier to convert the whole lot to cable tranny and what is involved? I have spent ages searching and from what i found, a hydro tranny will bolt to the B16a without problem (am i right?) but are there any other problems associated with a conversion like that?

Thanks, can you just clarify what you said, do i fit a hydro clutch to the cable tranny and use it or get the Y21 hydro and fit a hydro clutch to it?

well, cable tranny's have a smaller spline than their hydro counterpart, so if you want to use a hydro tranny you need a hydro cluthch disc; if you want cable you need a clutch disc for a cable tranny.
also, if you use a cable tranny in a hydro car, you need to buy a hydro to cable conversion.
if i were you i would just use a hydro tranny since they are also better than cable
