78 honda civic 1.3L Topic
About to start one as a project. I bought it for next to nothing with 0 compressoin in all 4 cyl. Was told by owner that timing belt broke and bent all of the valves. pulled the head off, turns out to be a headgasket. So dillema is what to do? Im thinking boost. I have a turbo from an automatic talon lying around. still doing some research any info web links or personal info will be appreciated.

kinda wanted to keep it carbuerated for now and not have to worry about axles, wiring and such. i just read that the older 70ish accord 1.8l will bolt in with out too much bother. So that is another option. keep them coming
anyone know where to find info on these cars?

Why would you want to slow down that civic?

ya that is definitely an option I have the y7 out my 00 HB 2.0L swap. hmmm making a car that is carbuerated, fuel injected. hmmmmmm sounds like a lot of work. new fuel lines, pump, wiring, management system,............definitely doable but for that much work I think I would like a bigger pay off and do a b series. not much more work. Any opinions?

I've got a 79 1200 Civic that I've started to sketch out a D16 swap into.
On this model the hubs have the same splines as the D axles so the stock D axles will fit, as long as the motor is postioned correctly.
So the major two factors are:
1-welding in the mounts ( I have pics of these from someone who did this before, I can send em to you)
2- wiring
I know the D motor will fit fine as far as space.
The chassis I have is an ex GT car so we've got it set to run a fuel cell, -AN lines, etc.

It may be a similar amount of work but keep in mind you have the d-series already and its lighter. The D16 has potential both n/a and turbo, and your civic is extremely light so what may seem like a low hp number in a newer civic is a lot in the old one

Maybe contact that guy, see how his project is going. Apparently he WAS able to find new off the shelf suspension components, wow.

hehe, yeah, i would do either 1 of 2 things. well i did do one. i put a ZC into my 80 wagon. havent got it running yet but should be a beast when its done. i kinda wish i had restored it now, its getting harder and harder to find a good condition honda that old.
Ok so I ordered the head gasket from honda.
(one of 6 in all of canada
) 56 bux later Im gonna just put the thing together until my friend with his 94 integra retires his b18 for a H22. Then the fun will begin. A buddy of mine is getting rid of a pile of stuff including 2 EF si engines.
so,
B18 swap
y8 swap
or an ef si swap
what do you guys think
it will all be sitting here in my garage by the weekend.
I also have a 4g63 hmmmmm

ef si swap is going to be your best bet without MAJOR surgery to that car.
you can do a 4x100 conversion from an 80-83 civic, use the axles from the 80-83, and the si tranny from an 88-91 civ/crx. that way you dont have to get custom axles made($$$$$$) and you will only have to do very minor clearancing of the passenger side frame rail to clear the tranny.

correct, but only in a handling sense. these cars are immensely lightweight with a full interior, much less gutted. my wagon, which is the heaviest of the 2nd gen civics weighed in at a little over 1800 on the scales at the farmers market with my back seat removed.
i didnt know the 80-83 had a 4x100 bolt pattern, things are kinda makin sense all of a sudden. And I am all about saving money! hah!
All the help is greatly appreciated i am gonna put some pics up tonight in case anyone is interested>
