Default Turbine way too close to the intercooler, what should I do? *PICS*

Hey guys, finally putting everything on and checking fitment, or lack thereof. My turbine is way too close to my intercooler. Any suggestions? This is on my 91 CRX. Should I cut a little piece out of the bumper support so that my IC sits further up?

EDIT: pics are down

wow that is so damn close it's not even funny . . . . after all that is the cold side, but can you maybe turn the turbo that the the compressor is on the opposite side? By doing that it should hug the block more.

The compressor used to be on the passenger's side but I wanted to change it. I already got everything made, so I need to keep it like this. I'm thinking about cutting the front bumper support a little bit (about an inch high so the intercooler just fits). Hopefully that won't weaken the support too much =\

As long as its not touching I dont see the problem. The compressor doesnt get that hot.

I'm not really worried about the compressor, it's the turbine that i'm afraid of. It's so close to the IC.

why cant you fit it on the outside of the bumper support?

its hard to tell from the pics. but it looks to me like it is sitting on the inside. trim the back of your bumper and it should fit.

It should be okay there, as long as it not touching.

You can always remove the bumper support.

The bumper won't fit if I put it on the outside of the support. I'm gonna see if there's anything to shave behind the bumper cover. Hopefully there is.

If it comes down to it though, how bad is cutting part of the bumper support? Not a whole section off, just part of it. Will the car lose any stability? It shouldn't matter unless I hit something, right?

Thanks

if the front bumper support is cut, even a tiny bit its pointless to keep it. It will not do its job becuase now you have a weak spot in it. If you cut it, take the whole thing off or maybe get a new IC (i.e. shorter and fatter).

What IC is it?

I need to get a half sized radiator. Anyone have one? Got a full size to trade

Fred, how is that true? I'm not cutting a whole section out, maybe about an inch high, and the legnth of the IC. It will be better than NO bumper support.

It's a Spark Racing IC.

But if u cut it , its taking the support away its ment to be one beam, not a beam with a missing support spot..
Its all one.. its like cutting a piece out of your traction bar(like a chuck ) it will make it weaker, just take it out if worse somes to worse

I wouldn't be cutting a whole section out though.

It won't be like [[[[[[[[[ ]]]]]]]]]. It'll still be one full piece, with about an inch cut from the bottom for the length of the intercooler.

I'll take a pic tomorrow, to help me explain it because I suck at explainations.

It's a dark pic, but I think Nick means cutting it like this:

I tried to keep my support bar but it was impossible with this intercooler. YOu can shave the top of it like the pic above to get it to fit.

Well your radiator will go there where you have the intercooler.. So the intercooler will be moved farther away from the turbo..

Yes sir! Just like that...just a little shavey shave Gonna try that before taking it off. I also just found out that HFs have a single bar going accross...that may work.

redturbocivic: that intercooler is huge
