I was just noticing something.

The OTC is over.

You know what the OTC is right? The Open Track Challenge.

The Krazy marathon of race tracks in the Pacific Southwest. The PMUM Memorial. As seen at nsxfiles.com.

Maybe it's not a huge deal where you are?

Actually it's not a huge deal where I am.

Though, here, here on the internet, it's right here. Err, right over there anyway.

Still isn't that close though is it?

Not like Honda Challenge....East....or West.

I mean, Honda Challenge is written up in Magazines!

True, OTC is too.

25 Hours at Thunderhill too I've noticed in a few recent mags.

Still, it's not the same as being there.

Then again, these probably look like pretty big deals to some.

I remember how big a deal the Trans-AMA looked like to me when I was 13-14 in '74. Adolf Weil, Roger D, and the rest looked pretty big time to me.

Even the local's looked like they were part of something big. Burgett, Sun, Gregson, Mitchell.

But now I know much better exactly how big a deal it all really was.

There was a virtuous circle of sorts.

.......

Have you noticed who we've lost over time?

Remember Andy? Can you believe he gave All of This up to blaze across the desert in some monster off road truck? And to occassionaly play onramp bandit in his M3 driver?

I see some people falling out on the east coast too recently.

The further they get away from here, the smaller the deal it looks like I'm sure.

"Dude...you still hangin' round Honda-Tech?"....

I see it. I get it. But still, that's not about me. That's about them.

It's as big or small as it is. And that's got to do with who's there....here...wherever.

Do you want to do it because it's a big deal, and you want to be a part of it?

Or do you want to do it, and it'll be the deal it is, maybe even big to you, because you want to do it?

What if you don't know why you want to do it? Maybe you Really want to do it for the wrong reasons?

I don't know....When did you stop sucking your thumb?

You see what I'm getting at?

Of course you do.

It's not Really a Big Deal. It's Your Deal. Or it's Not.

Scott, who isn't trying to make a big deal out of this...

It's good to be a real person once in a while, and not just play one on the internet.

The Master Plan

Making the Scene

Finding Balance

Appreciating What You Have, Not Resenting What You Don't

The Big Deal, Or Not

I believe I just figured it all out. These are early drafts of chapters of the book that explore the inward and outward looking dimensions of cars, racings, motorsports, and a life philosophy that you'll publish either just before or just after you retire from the job that provides the paycheck that allows you the pursue your racing and writing passions. It all seems so clear now.... doesn't it?

Casey, and who sez I haven't been paying attention in class

Casey,

I'm on to you!

You're just playing to my dementia.

How cruel.

Scott, who momentarily thought to hiself: "Whoa, that dude is taking me even more seriously than I take myself"....and in that instant I was, like, an Even Bigger Deal!

Scott,

Just making observations and reflecting upon what I observe. Kinda like holding up a mirror. Who's looking in the mirror, and who's holding the mirror can make a difference on what's being seen and what's being reflected, which can be a big deal, or not.

Casey, who looks in the mirror every morning and wonders is that a big deal, or not...

I worked on my car some today. Cleaned the pool.
Was informed for the 9th time that I'm overqualified for a job. Started pricing contractor grade zero turn lawnmowers.
Kids report cards looked good.
Fried up some pork chops for dinner. They were good.
Paid Bills. Looks like we can actually race next month.
Watched a playoff Hockey Game. It was good but my team lost.

Tomorrow will likely be similar. Hopefully nothing "bad" will happen.

Now. Thats life.

I like the way my thumb tastes... and I see no reason to stop... it's there, so I might as well enjoy... I don't think about it, it's part of me... Whether it's "good" or not doesn't matter it just is... So, really, what's the big deal?

OTC..., yes, and this upcoming weekend starts the One Lap of America... wish I could have gone and filmed a couple who are running in it... "Laps to Conquer MS".

"...shallow water... don't let me get too deep."
