side strip Q
you know that ugly *** black strip on my ek that is halfway up your car, and runs from the front to the back, what is under that cause i want to rip it off, is it held up by adheasive? or screws?
i need to get that piece off also. i have to fix a dent there, thanks to a friendly BMW owner
i'd like to remove it without breaking any of the fasteners. i think you just slide it forward, but i'm hesitant to do so.

we're both talking about #4, 5, or 6 right? on the quarterpanel it looks like it's just a few clips holding it on. however i have no idea how many there is, or how to get them off without breaking all of them. for the door, it looks like there's a different clip up front, regular ones in the middle, and a nut in the back. and the one up on the front fender looks so small, it probably just has one clip holding it on.
hopefully someone can help us out.
if it is the side molding's, u gotta open up the interior panals to unclip it, cause if u rip it out there might be some damage.
in my opinion, just leave it.. cause its gonna have holes after its removed. unless you are gonna bondo it back up and repaint it.

can anybody confirm that before i go rip my car apart?</TD></TR></TABLE>
unless you wanna break the clips and have the peices rattling around inside your door forever, go from the inside...
i took mine off and had the holes shaved, cleans it up a bit i think...

I confirm, the clips has to be removed from the inside. Then if you remove it, it will leave holes which you have to cover the holes then paint. There are many ways to shave the holes, it's up to you. You can weld, fiber glass or epoxy. I did mine since I replaced my left door and the door that I bought had those mouldings. I removed it, then put masing tape on the outside. Then I used pioneer all purpose epoxy and dabbed it from the inside. When the epoxy dried, I finished it using bondo on the outside, sand and paint. Looks cleaner now!
