i bought a lightning audio off ebay a 1 farad digital...It works great, and the monitor on top tells you how much juice it is holding and how much it uses when it hits...It wasnt expensive, i had paid like 75 bucks for it but im sure you can get it cheaper now...

yea i was looking into that one its 79 + 15 for shipping. i hate how ebay charges
3-5 times more than what it cost to ship.

lightning is owned by rockford. the lightning and rockford caps are essentially the same thing. the rockford caps used to cost more but they lowered the msrp on the rockford caps to $119 which I think is how much the lightnings go for. dont forget ur accesories, 4 awg ring terminals rockford makes bolt down ones that look nice, they go for about $10.
A 1 farad cap is good for up to 1000w rms.

Yeah but its Shipping and handling. But yeah I have the same one,but its really not worth it.I just use it for a volt meter.

yea true, but to handle the stuff doesnt cost arm and a leg. i shipped my amp out because it had scratches and it cost me 11 bucks, including the cost of box, stuffing material, and gas and i packed it well. i was charged 27 bucks and $3 for insurance for a poorly packaged product. oh well thats ebay.
anyone heard of sting pro caps? not stinger but STING Pro. i see a nice 2 farad digi cap with built in distubutor, only 90 bucks shipped.

all capacitors work equally well. whether you buy a no name with plain white covering $20 capacitor or a $150 cap with a very fancy sticker on it, it'd work the same, just check the specs. look for anything with at least 20volt surge and low esr. the differences would be how much farads you'd need for your application. (0.5farad for systems up to 500watts rms, 1 farad for up to 1000watts rms) then the rest is just a personal choice (looks/brands, etc.)
caps are gay, they reduce overall output of your system just because of the surges they go through, when an amp draws current really hard the cap supports it for a second or two then needs to recharge, where it reduces the actual power going to the amp. I recommend getting a dry or gel cell battery.

edit...I've decided to be a little less sharp toungued today...
IMO, a gel cell batt is not going to help you with voltage problems either...

You may have been installing since my grandmother was wearing knickerbockers, but have you ever looked at what a cap can do to an AC waveform on an ocilloscope???
Obviously not. _b
An audio amplifier that is running at high load/output, will draw a pulsating DC supply current, that varies in frequency depending on the output waveform.
A capacitor connected in parallel across the amplifier will help to smooth this down to more of a steady load, thereby reducing the load on the battery and alternator.
Also, because the capacitor is stabilising the current waveform, the amplifier actually has a slightly higher output due to the increased RMS voltage available at the amplifiers terminals.

and say yes to what??
bigger battery?
better alt?
jumper cables
ok WHAT is wrong with using a capacitor? im thinking of using one until i can upgrade my electrical system JUST for the rare occasions i want to bump hard for long
WHAT IS SO WRONG WITH INSTALLING A CAP? I DON'T GET IT!?
