Default tranny issues

Ok when i bought my 01 ITR from an Acura dealer i noticed that i high RPM's there was a grinding between 2nd and 3rd (synchro) So i told them that if i was to buy the car they would have to fix it, and they agreed. So they replaced the tranny with a new one. Now i noticed that the gear box seems a little "teethy" going from gear to gear, and i noticed that sometimes when i throw shift from 1st to 2nd i hear like a bang noise, sometimes.

Just wondeing if this is kinda normal for ITR gear boxes? I have never owned an ITR before so i wouldn't know.

Oh yeah and when i hear or feel these noises i am shift normal, between 3k and 4,500 RPM's.

Thanks guys

Chris.... Best thing to do would be meet up and let me feel or hear what your trans is doing and if need be we can drop it and take a look at it.

Holy.... We became members the same exact day back in 01....... thats funny!

1) Depress clutch pedal
2) select next gear
3) release clutch pedal

Though, its possible it might need some adjustment or bleeding of the clutch master/slave system.

ITR trannys suck, I have broken my final drive (pinion gear) twice and tonight I completly lost 2nd gear. I goes in but theres nothing there. So if someone can tell me what I broke now it would be greatly appreciated.

I have found the R tranny to be a little notchy when shifting when compared to most other small engine trannies I have and still own. Some is the fWD setup geometry ( not ideal ) and some is the extra robustness of the tranny internals.

The bang noise is most likely the abrupt clutch engagement on your quick shift.. the faster you shift at the higher the rpm, the greater the shock to the drivetrain, and sometimes you are not going to get it exactly right with your smoothness and you will shock some part or another, and get a bang or a grind, that's life.

This is a pretty small transmission for the power the car puts down, and if you abuse it alot, it will fail! If you give it some respect ( just beat it when you NEED to..) it will go the distance for you..
