AIR FILTER ISSUES!! PLS HELP

pls tell me what is the best way to modify the air filter..
is it better to leave the box and change the inside air filter?
or remove the box and put in a bigger air filter?

Otherwise, try some words like air + filter + replacement

In short, a filter alone will not provide any staggering gians HP wise but, will mostly just provide quicker throttle response. You could do either a K&N or Comptech (UNI), or even others but the better results and protection other than OEM are provided by the aforementioned brand names and styles.
Removing the top of the stock airbox will provide a louder sound and when Vtec engages but Not any gains and from a standstill just losses.
Modifying the stock airbox and or using just a short ram type intake again does Not provide any staggering gains or anything noticable other than the throttle reponse and noise again.
See a pattern?
There are maybe 2 or 3 intakes that actually improve flow and provide gains at the same time, Comptech Icebox and Mugen are 2 that stand out from the rest of the crowd in these respects.
Use the SEARCH and modify your wording if you don't get immediate results. Also use the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum to gain information and hopefully answer some of your questions.
Short of the short is that the Stock OEM intake on the R is pretty darned good and a cool air by design to boot.
And there may be many aftermarket intakes available but only a few that are worth while and actually provide gains for money spent.
Best of luck.

thank you very much for your detailed and informative description.
you have truly helped me out alot.
i will go for the k&n and leave the box. However i will remove the resonator and put in a pipe to intake air from the front bumper.
once again thks ...
PS. in a yr 2000 DC2 type R ... wat is the best rpm for launch ???
