Default Getting into Autocrossing

I was wondering what the best way to get into autocross is. I have been doing tons of reading on the sport; but now I think it would be best to watch a few events and then give it a try. I am in SoCal, so what is the best way to find events? How often do they have events? And when there are no events, how can i practice? Are canyons good practice since they are windy and not too fast? Also, are there any mods i should do before i start autoXing? Right now ive got stock 4WS, a front strut bar and an AEM CAI... And stock 15" rims w/ 205s.

Thanks, Jordan

Check out the SCCA for information on race classes, rules, links to local chapters, etc.

If you'd like to mod your car out for typical street performance, check into the "STS" class, for racing. It's pretty much designed for cars like ours, which have mods you'd find on a typical street-driven car.

If possible, I would start in Novice class (if your region has it). That way, you can compete with other novice autocrossers. As mentioned, STS is also a good class to be in. Most of the cars that compete in that class (in my region anyways) include the Civic Si, Integra LS-GSR, older BMW 3-series, Impreza RS, Tiburon, Celica, Corrado, Neon, to name a few.

I have been to several events as a spectator in the LA basin. Usually, there is one event per month held at the old El Toro MACS or at one of the parking lots at the Pomona speedway. The site for these races is http://www.solo2.com

The site is a good rescourse and it's easy to find the info you are looking for.

See you out there if my boss lets me out for a weekend
