You can continue to run the regular Castrol GTX 5w-30, good stuff. If you want a decent, easily accesible synthetic that's affordable, try Castrol Syntec 5w-30. Mobil 1 is decent, but you might have oil consumption like many other people experience..
I've heard good things about Valvoline synthetic also..

It's your choice really. Castrol, Valvoline are race proven and don't seem to disappear. I know many that have suffered oil loss when useing Mobil 1, Redline, NEO. I wouldn't recommend 5w-20/30, it simply isn't thick enough.
mikehonda: who stuck with Castrol Syntec 10w-30, and da B18C5 doesn't use a drop

it seems like you just wanted to know what type of oil you should use so you won't have to worry about other stuff. that's not it man. i'll use no name oil and still be fine as long as i change & check my oil.

The viscosity of both of these should be nearly identical once they reach operating temperature, so there shouldn't be any real problem using the 5W-30 year round.

that, and sometimes you get better specs with 5w30

Castrol syntec is not a synthetic oil unless you get the German made kind...which is green....Castrol likes to charge their customers synthetic prices for a non synthetic Castrol Syntec....great company!

So this is the first time you're changing oil in a four-year-old engine? I hope you got the engine used within the past six months, and the engine oil was previously changed many times by the previous owner. (Or, you got the engine new and it was sitting on a shelf for 3-4 years.)
Don't tell me you've been using that engine for four years without changing the oil. Please don't tell me that.

Well, lets just say that it is no better then GTX. I wish more people would be informed that they are paying for a highly refined dino oil, instead of a true synthetic like mobil 1. Europe gets much higher quality full synthetic oils from Castrol, but not us here in NA. Castrol

my ITR drinks Mobil 1. this is actually a recent topic i've posted. basically, all VTEC's...especially ITR's and S2000's drink it up. probably has to do with the extreme high revving.
i'm switching to Amsoil 5W30 in a couple weeks. supposed to be the best stuff. i'm hoping my R isn't thirsty for it like the M1.
my brother has a 2000 Prelude and has the same problem with M1. he recently switched to Castrol Syntec 5W30. we're waiting to see if the "easily-accessible" Castrol lasts as long as the "harder to find" Amsoil.
then we'll decide which oil we'll stick with. i'll post up the results when we know what's up.
