i wonder if a leakdown and compression test will show signs of it..

It only does it sometimes..

stock block?

mine does the same under WOT. My guess is my rings because I didnt use overbored pistons for my buildup

My compression is good across the board. up around 280ish for all 4 cyl. Until it starts smoking at idle or something, Ill just keep oil handy and deal with it. :shrugs:

a leakdown will show if the cylinder is leaking air. compression doesnt always show that.

IMO, if you go turbo, you should take that block apart and give it a fresh rebuild just incase

Are these the stock pistons?? Honda pistons dont like boost. youll end up blowing the ring lands and then you will have serious blow by, loss of compression, and a rebuild on your hands. Id say you are taking some serious chances if you leave it like it is and slap on a turbo. You need to find out exactly what is going on or you are gonna have serious problems down the line. Do a compression test and a leak down and see what you come up with.

Heres my .02

My first step would be to do a compression test, from there do the Leakdown Test to find out the source of the problem. From what I can remmeber it goes like this
Oil Cap= rings Exhuast = Exhuast valves Throttle body= Intake valves Radiator=headgasket, dont quote me but im pretty sure those are accurate.

Lastly I would definetely get this done before the Turbo install, and Tuning because It would be ashame to spend Install $$, Tuning $$, and your trip is also gonna be $$$ just to have this motor last 2-3 weeks. Make sure evreything is 100% before boosting

quikb18B that sounds about right.

You may do a compression test, and have good numbers. But leakdown could show leakage. Compression test happens fast, and a lot of times the leaks are so small, there isnt enough time for the leak to register on the gauge. Leakdown should show you better detailed info. I would still do a leak down even if comp shows good numbers, and see if you have any slight leaks anywhere that might need some attention.

If its worth doing, its worth doing right. I would suggest taking care of the problem now, because once you start pouring in that boost, your problem will get a lot worse and end up causing a lot more damage. As posted above you'll have problems with lost compression, blow by, etc. And maybe even some thrashed to hell pistons and sleeves.

and he did a leakdown test to prove what he "told" you? if so, then this thread has already been answered before you posted it.

Im assuming your going to be building the new block soon, so why not wait until the new motor goes in to do it all at once, Install, Tuning, 500 hp . I'm sure theres a reason, but just curious.

I'm never the type to rush things. If it doesn't feel like the best time to do it, then don't do it. Go with the flow is what I always say.

I don't think anything you do now can make you any better off since your going to slap that turbo on in a week anyways.
