Default DSM 1G BOV LEAKING - what to do?

My turbo has been slow to spool. I knew it couldn't be normal, so I started testing everything for leaks. I couldn't find an exhaust leak, and the charge pipes were good and tight. The wg wasn't even opening (tested with a block-off plate) yet. Finally, I found the problem by covering the outlet to the dsm bov with duct tape and taking it for a spin. Immediate boost - all the way up. So, anyone know if crushing the bov would fix this, or do I just need to replace it? How safe/reliable/easy is crushing a dsm bov?
