My stinky honda
I am a noob to honda-tech.com, and this is my first post. So, I appreciate any input!
I bought my '93 DX h/b a few months back after it had been sitting for about a year. I did all the proper tune up items, and a nice thorough cleaning inside and out. What I have noticed, especially in the last few months, is that the inside of the car smells stinky! It is not a poop smell, not quite a dead smell, but somewhere in-between. I thought maybe something had died inside my car somewhere, but checking under the seats, in the tirewell, etc has revealed no source to this rank odor.
Soon I installed a "sport-fresh" christmas tree on the mirror, and febreeze on the seats; and my problem seemed to be temporarily thwarted. It was one chilly morning when I turned on the heat, when the rancid odor returned! Even now in warm weather, just turning on the vents at any setting result in the same smelly disposition!
Anyone have any clue on this? Any places I can look for a problem, any ideas on what it might be?
Thanks again for any input.

gross! you've got a dead squirrel in your blower motor!
look under the passengerside dash, there are 3 screws on the motor. take it out, and hold your breath. hopefully your problem will be solved

may be mold,i got a 89 CRX Si for free,it had been sitting in a yard for 4 years. i have NEVER seen so many ants in my life....i had to strip the interior all the way down, sprayed black flag and intake/throttle body cleaner to kill the hordes of ants, sucked up the dead ants and water with a shop vac. it smelled like *** for weeks....went through 2 bottles of febreeze and it eventually cleared out, lol.

I think it's the aroma of death too. Animals can cram themselves into the most asinine places and they're inconsiderate enough to perish there.
Have a good look; I've encountered dead possums and all sorts of assorted rodentia in cars that have been sitting for a while.

Could be a dead animal...or maybe the previous owner went out drinking one night, had a little too much to drink and puked in the vents... now producing the foul smell you speak of.

I agree that is sick ****, the thing to do is check the heater core for mold, check under the carpet for anything lying under there, also check the air vents cominginto the car
oh ****.. i should put my wiper cowl back on.. had to take it off because somehow the integra hood is not lining up correctly when closed.. time to customize it and put it back before some animal crawls in there and decides to die..

my old DA did that too . . . . it's the water/fluid in the washer tank and lines that's been rotting away for a while. I tried flushing it out with water over and over and it still stunk every time. I was going to run some straight Simple Green through the system, but I sold it.

It happens. A friend of mine lived in Poland and bought a 3 cylinder Fiat from a girl who inherited it from her uncle. What she neglected to disclose to potential buyers was that he not only died in it, but his rotting carcass lay steeping in the summer sun for almost a month before anyone decided to look for him.
The car cost almost nothing due to the God awful stench, but a complete stripping and scrubbing wouldn't make the smell of dead uncle go away. When my buddy went to see his girl at school an hour away, he had to Zip Lock and wrap a change of clothes and strap them to the roof because even the trunk stunk. Even hitchhikers refused rides in the death stench mobile.
