hey,

my coolant overflow tank isn't gushing out constantly... it just seems to fill up on its own when i drive hard, and sometimes overfills and i had a little bit of coolant spray over piping and block? any idea why this is happening? i never filled it past the MAX line so I dont think there's too much coolant, but just the tank keeps getting higher. if i drive normal for a day or so it goes back down a little bit. plz help. thanks!

My friend trashed his headgasket less than a month after we noticed his coolant reservoir overflowing.

same here. stop the car and hear "blub-blub-blub" from the overflow bottle.

6th! same thing on my civic. thought it was overheating bc the radiator or therm was toast, replaced them, same crap happened. does it smoke at all yet?? if it doesnt, it probably will soon. replaced my head gasket, problem solved.

wow, head gasket sounds nice... advice on one? Greddy 2mm? i supposedly have some smoke coming out of my exhast so im guessing thats it.

I had the same symptons 3 years ago when I didnt know much, It took about 6 weeks of driving it like that for the motor to finally blow

Moral of story dont waste any time a Headgasket is cheaper than a rebuild

It's your radiator cap that is bad. The sypmtoms sound right to me.

If you take your radiator cap off you should see oil residue, that is if you have a blown head gasket.

Change your radiator cap first and see if that happens again. Alot cheaper.......

i looked at my oil as well and its not milky either.

 

ah crap, my integra is doing this too (na), I guess its time for a new radiator cap and a compression test.

I just refilled my radiator using the coolant overlfow tank - no oily mess/residue that I can see.

Compression tests dont mean ****. I had the overflow tank problem a few years ago and I yielded perfect compression. Yanked the head and found the HG was blown. At least do a cyl leakdown test as well. Those are far more accurate but unfortunately can be misleading as well.

Yank your plugs and see how they look. You typically will see a 'whiter' plug in reguards to the location of the blown headgasket. Also, I don't recommend boosting on a blown headgasket. You are allowing coolant to enter the combustion chamber which will in change let you run lean and increase your combustion temperatures. What does that mean? Melted pistons usually on the intake side.

You also need to check the decking of the head and the block to make sure no warping occurred. Usually this will happen near one of the water jackets.

haha, exactly... Same thing would happen with my coupe. I beat it for like 2 months like that. It's not boosted now, but still running like 6 months later

I'm not boosted, I just found this thread via a search and thought that I should jump in.

Coolant does not look oily, and Oil change was done about 3 weeks ago and it didn't look watery.

If it means anything i went from getting about 280 miles per tank gas to about 200 miles per tank of gas about a week ago.

i had the same sympton, i passed my compression test, retorqued arps 85lbs, bleed radiator and re-bleed radiator, changed water pump, ran without thermostat and eventually ran a new 1, constant on radiator fan, & on & on... i was also supposedly running one of those badboy blowproof headgaskets... Yeah whateva, somewhere between na & 1st lil' lb of boost i began having coolant problems... i'm ramblin'now... 2make long tedious story short. i finally took my head off and found cluprit --&gt; blown head gasket &lt;-- now I'm boostin`the hell out of my OEM HG & coolant problem free 2this day PrecisionH23a thanks a mil

ive had the same problem happen to me. it was a defective radiator cap.

 

So I have this same problem in my 2000 Honda Civic LX, but I've already had the head gasket replaced. It stopped overheating for a bit and then started back up again. Thermostat and water pump have been replaced as well. Coolant keeps coming out of the reservoir tank.

 

Are you using new OEM head bolts when you replaced it, or the same ones?

The bills may have stretched over the years, and once you remove the head may not go back to spec as they once were

 

List all relevant conditions.

Do your fans work?
With engine running and radiator cap off. Do the bubbles in the radiator ever go away?
Did you do any machine work to the head or did you just toss a new gasket in there and call it good?
Proper torque specs on head gasket?





Just throwing this out there in case you didn't pick up on it, but I was born the same year this thread was created.
