Autopower or custom rollbar
Should I run an Autopower or get a custom roll bar fitted instead? I have an 01 ITR, does anyone know the price range it would cost to make a custom one with a harness bar. All this talk about where to bolt your harnesses is scaring me! I currently have my harnesses bolted down under the back seats to the frame. If I run an Autopower, am I still gonna have a lot of leg room? Does it take up a lot of moving space as far as the seat position goes? Also If I run an Autopower, do you have to cut the crap out of the rear q-panels? Heh sorry for asking so many questions.
Most of your questions can be answered by calling Autopower 619-297-3300.
Find a local fabricator and talk to them, too. Most of it, though, comes down to how much you want to spend, and what you're personal preferences are...2 things that no one here will answer for you. Good luck.

As noted above, a quick search should find a lot of pictures for you. FYI, in my 98 ITR I could move the seat all the way back with my autopower bar for the max leg room, but I could not recline it more than a few inches.
if you're hoping to save money with the autopower cage, remember to add about another $200 to pay someone to weld it in for you.
for the most part, you can get custom cages made starting at about $1G.

This is exactly what I'd like to do, but I don't really have a clue on how much it would cost. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=833374
The car is not driven that much, this summer it'll see a lot of track events though. I barley drive the car, maybe once every month. My question to you, should I really go blow money away on a custom cage or will the autopower be fine. Really the only reason for getting a roll bar is for my harnesses and for the summer track events I'm gonna do.

Factor, I would suggest going with a custom rollbar over a bolt-in. I think in the end, you will be happier (just going by friend's opinions after getting rid of theirs). For one, the fit will be more specific to your needs/goals and second, all you would need to do to remove it is a cutting wheel and some spay-on undercoating for the back side of the rear fender wells - you can always fill in the holes too. Either way, it will take some patching to return to stock but w/ the custom bar, it should be more specific to what you want out of it (and request that it be done such that you can extend it to a full cage later so at least you have that option).
Yea as far as safety I dont really want to go cheap. If it costs 1k for a custom cage thats going to work, I'll just have to save up. I'm not saying the autopower is crap or anything, but as far as fitment goes...It would be nice to get one to fit my needs. Thanks Adam
If you're paying someone to install it for you, just go custom.
Its nearly $500 with shipping for an autopower bar. Then $200-$300 for install. For that price, someone will just build you a custom bar that will look and fit better.

Just to be clear and not trying to pick nits but I don't think you are going to get yourself into a good safe custom _cage_ for 1k. I think you can come in under 1k for a roll bar (4pt) definately. Do remember however, if you are going to need seats and seat mounts, that price will change too. If you are thinking about safety, think as a system - a stock seat can shear/twist too easily (I have seen a few in impacts) making the rigid harnesses seem rather useless.
