Default D15 w/ Z6 head timing (adjustable cam gear)

My friend has a D15 block that we recently put a Z6 head on and have been driving it around for a while, the improvement wasnt that great.

I've heard that he needs to get an adjustable cam gear for it, so he ordered one.

My question is what is a good setting, I heard that with a D15 block its almost 9 degrees off.

Before you say you have to take it to a dyno, I'll let you know that I have access to a dyno and its been on there before but we dont have time this week and there is a race this weekend.

TIA
