Default Orange County, CA Autocross Venues

Have any of you autocross club organizers ever aproached Anaheim Statium about running in their lot?

Also, I know there has been at least one event out at El Toro Marine Base. Is that likely to ever happen again?

I'd be interested in trying out something at Angels Stadium. So far as I know, the nearest autocrosses are usually held up at Hollywood Park, but it would be nice if there was something closer.

Darren- whom, of course, has no problem driving 5 hours out to Phoenix for an HPDE at PIR at the drop of a hat...go figure

I have heard that years ago, there were kart races held in the Stadium parking lot, but nothing recently.

I think the local AutoX club (http://www.solo2.com) have tried to get the Angels Stadium before. Check thier website for upcoming events. Looks like they're doing a lot of events at Norton Air Force Base and California Speedway now. I don't think El Toro will have a place to drive much longer anyway . . .

About Socal Solo 2, do you have to have a points card to autocross? If you don't, how do you register for each event?

Most events don't require a points car. Just check on the website for upcoming events and there should be info on how to register

here's a thought, the lot at verizon/wild rivers is open. Talked to owners, appears it was used a long time ago for some group but insurance was the impending factor.

Yeah, it used to be called Lion Country Safari. They ran Auto-x there for years back in the day. Ran my first car, a Datsun 510, there when i was in highschool. 1979-81.

Yes, I am really that old.

i don't know the whole story and CSCC is very strict about their lot acquiring procedures, i guess because there have been issues in the past.

but the lot at angels stadium is a no go from what i've read, b/c they had an event there once that went well for everyone except some ******* ******* stunna who decided to do donuts in the middle of the course and left ugly tiremarks on the lot. not that that's a big deal but some spineless disney **** complained about having to look at it when he/she was staring out the window of his/her office and after that the Big A's been off limits. maybe the moreno administration will be ok with it, who knows?

wild rivers sounds like an interesting idea, and irvine would be MUUUCH better than san bernadino at this time of year...i guess i should get in touch with my club rep and suggest it.

you can't be old b/c I remember those days and I'm not that old. I'm sure it could happen over there again, I can get in touch with the owners/management over there if the CSCC wants to make it happen. Irvine is ideal for auto-x (close to me but I have to say the best lot is the west lot of qualcomm and what used to be el toro, that concrete surface made 400 treadwear tires perform like 140 treadwear tires.

They still run some "events" at the Irvine Medows (Verizon or whatever). I know that manufacturers (MBZ & BMW) have rented out the parking lot recently (last couple of years). They also do car shows there so it's possible.

From what I've heard the El Toro surface make 400 treadwear tires wear out like 140 treadwear tires too

Yep, even CHP and local cops use it for training purposes so it can happen, just depends on the terms of the owners in terms of how much insurance they want the organizers to have. The car shows take place at lion country, not in the parking lot outside in front of wild rivers. MB and BMW have used verizon for show-offs on new model cars. I attended the release of the new E-class there back in '96 or was it '98. Anyways, it's a possibility and I really liked el toro, made cheap tires perform like expensive ones.
