Accord Troubles
Ok, I'm going to come off sounding real newbie here, but I'm not a mechanic, my Alabama relatives are. So here's the story: I have a '94 Accord LX with some odd transmission problems. I guess I should give you a little background on it first though. Originally, the front left axle would continually pop out of the engine/transmission because a little o-ring that locks it in place was warped and bent down into the axle. Through that hole a lot of transmission fluid leaked... and leaked and leaked and leaked. So I went down to Alabama using about 5 quarts of transmission fluid just on the way there. Long story short, we fixed it temporarily, but the transmission eventually just quit. So, I had a rebuilt transmission put in last fall. It was running great until about a week ago when it decided it only wanted to be a three speed automatic (reverse, second, and third). Coincidentally, the alternator died at the same time. I replaced that yesterday with a rebuilt one from Autozone, and no problems so far. On top of that I can't shift out of Park without first inserting the key into the shift-lock release, going to neutral, then starting it up. So now I have to just park in neutral with the hand brake on. Fair enough, but the check engine light keeps coming on. I've yet to find a pattern with it. Some rides it doesn't come on at all, but most of the time it comes on about 6 minutes or so of driving. Has anyone else had these kind of problems?
Oh, sorry for posting my mechanical problems in this forum, I know its mostly a tuning, tweaking, etc. message board, but I hope someone here can spare sometime and give me some insight.
Thanks

Damn you have some problems homie!
1. Get a remanufactured axle that will stay in your transmission.
2. Check your Shift Lock Solenoid and the wiring coresponding to it
3. Check the alignment of your shift linkage.
4. The alternator seems to be working fine for you, so I wouldn't worry about that anymore.
5. Pull the CEL code and post the code here so we can help you further.

Quick update: Today I was driving home and all of my electronics just shut off. RPM gauge, Speedometer, Odometer, Fuel Gauge, radio, etc. All of my lights went dim, and the wiper had been moving slower than normal for a day or two. The funny thing is the car didn't die. I drove it about five miles back to my house, parked in my driveway, turned it off and tried to start it again. It wouldn't start and obviously a batery problem. So I jumped it off and it started, drove it around the block and it seemed fine. I have a lot of eletrical problems with my car, having to replace the starter (solenoid went bad), the driver side window motor died (it rolled down one day, had to open the door and lift it up manually), now I can't shift out of park. I'm guessing that has to do with the electronic switch releasing the shift lock when you press the brakes. So my question: Is this just a bunch of random events happening to me or is there a central source of all of these problems, maybe a voltage regulator gone bad somewhere?
Thanks
Edit: I almost forgot to mention that the EGR valve stopped working. Possibly another electrical problem?
