Turbo vr6? Anyone have any experience?
Well I posted over on vortex and have not gotten much useful info so I figured I would post here and see if anyone has any useful info.
I was thinking about turboing my vr6 with the turbo that is now on my honda. Here are the specs of that turbo. T04E/T3 54 STAGE 3 .63 AR I figure since I reach full boost by 3600 on my little 1.8 motor the vr should spool this little t3/t4 up pretty quick.
My question are as follows:
What can I safely boost my stock vr6 motor at? I daily drive the car about 180 miles a day so I do not want to be blowing up motors or having to rebuild it alot. I was thinking running between 7-10 psi.
Also what size injectors do you normally upgrade to? I read in the FAQ post and it said between 30# and 36# injectors. Why such a small injector? I am currently running 75# injectors on my honda@10psi.
Is there any piggy back systems out there? I see there are a few companies making chips but I would rather have a piggy back or a standalone that is plug and play. What are my options for that.
Also what manifolds do you use? It seems like people are using log style manfolds. What are some companies that make manfolds for the vr6 motor? Links and pics would be very helpful.
So after more research it looks like most people use log manifolds. One person post a link to eip which makes what I guess you could call a tubular manifold.
Here is the link http://www.eiptuning.com/eip/turbomanifolds.html
Look at the prices on that crap.
1.50" SS* Dump tube: $149.95
Support bracket: $39.95
These people must be smoking crack...
So any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

im helping my friend boost his vr6 as we speak and he purchased a ATP turbo kit, cast iron manifold with the wastegate placement on the last exhaust runner , for fuel managment hes using an fmu, fuel pump, and reprogramed ECU. Its a nice kit, sorta reminds me of my drag 3 kit.
youve done a honda..just take the same appraoch really.
peice together stuff and get custom stuff where you can to try and save money... vr6's respond pretty well to boost(does anything not?
)
7-10 psi with a nice decent sized turbo (like an sc61) ahhaa will be awesome imo!

yeah I do not see any nice manifolds out there like we have for hondas. They all look like log style cast manifolds. Also it seems like you can either buy a chip or go all out stand alone nothing in between which kind of sucks. I still have my fmu from my drag kit and I would have the turbo and ic from my honda. Wanted to see if anyone had any nice manifolds out there for the vr6
hmm try to contact itsukivr6 here on HT, i believe he went 11.5 with an ATP kit stock block. http://www.gtrmotorsports.net/bios/timbio.html
Don't lots of people use small T4s on VR6s? I'm sure your t3/t4 would be fun too. Probably like 10psi at 2700 or something. I wonder what the topend would feel like though.

my brother has a vr6 turbo, CP pistons/Manley rods, Big valve head. Hes running a custom kit using SDS standalone. Hes running a T4 57 trim .69ar. For a stock block vr6 i would go with a t4 57 trim .58ar.

Have any more pics of that manifold?
As far as the turbo goes. I am trying to go all out budget on this setup since it is my daily driver and if it gets stolen I do not want to loose a ton of money on the car. That is why I want to use my turbo and IC off my honda.

i know someone who has a vr6 turbo thats currently running off an eip chip, and it runs beautifully. for some reason vr6's run much smaller fuel injectors than hondas do. ill see if i can link you up wit someone who has lotsa info on this.
Talk to Chris Green. His website for his shop is http://www.unforgettablesnp.com/.
He has one of the fastest turbo vr6 jetta's around, I believe #4 in the country.
95 jetta vr6 504@ the wheels 19psi 10.72@134

I just finished building one. Used the Atp manifold and downpipe(I'm a dealer) and fabbed the rest. T04E 50 trim .58 trubine side. Full boost by 3000. Right now breathing through a 2.25" exhaust and a cat so the top end is choked a bit. A 3" system is the project for next week. Right now he is running a C2 motorsports chipp and maf housing but a Dta PR8 pro should be installed by mid June. Let me know if you have any questions or need anything. Kelly
Hey whats up man.. i have a vr turbo.. im runnin a t4 60-1 hifi... im usin atp mani and downpipie..i was using just the eip stage 2 chip runnin 5psi non intercooled to get started.. the chip is good for 14psi wit 255 pump and fmu... i have since bought haltech and a/w ic.. if you want i can sell you my chip for liek 75 bucks shipped.. you have obd1or 2?
i have obd 2 car. 99MKIII. So you must use the chip with an FMU? What was your gas milage like with the chip? Like I said I drive about 180 miles a day round trip.
