New Setup at fed-ex in the CRX this weekend
Im still a newb to autocrossing but I made some changed since my last autoX. Had the rear shocks set on 4 and 3 in the front, no frnt sway bar with the 22mm in the rear set in the middle setting, Also installed the frnt neuspeed tower bar to help stiffen up the frnt a little since im running NO frnt sway bar. The only thing holding me back was those crap tires I have. The car actually rotated this time instead of pushing like a fat chick at the all you can eat buffet. To be honest I thought maybe it would rotate too much with no fnt sway bar but I think it could be even looser, I was pushing it "pretty" hard and the rear end never even seemed like it was close to really breaking loose. But god is it nice when the car rotates, felt like a whole new car. Before I was running the 22mm frnt bar too...horrible idea. Next time I think im gonna try setting hte rear on 5 and the frnt on 3 and maybe even put the rear bar to the stiffest position. What do you guys think? I also had the tire pressure set at 41psi on my michelin MX's all around. I probably could have let some air out in the fnt to make it grab more....for next time I guess. Like I said I REALLY like the way the car rotated this time but now Im hooked and i want MORE
.....I want to hear what you guys think i should do differently next time, nothing major but i want to get the car dialed in as quickly as possible so that I can get as much seat time as I can with the setup that I will be running. ( by the way i will have azeni's by the next race). This damn sport is addicting....so much damn fun. You can see times at http://solo.wdcr-scca.org/resu...1c249 Im under SM2 (jason shippee) i had a passenger first two runs then just me, not bad for my 3rd autox with shitty street tires...much room for improvement though on the drivers part.
Thanks
Jason

If you are going to make changes do them one at a time. That way you know what effect each change makes. I would suggest you change the rear sway bar setting before the event since it is easier to change the shocks between runs. Run the shocks same as before to start with then after a couple runs you can try to change the rear shock settings.
Are you going to be driving Azenis for the street too or autox only? If it's for autox only, I'd get some stickier tires.
I'll be at the next fedex autox. If you're there, I'll try to stop by and say hi. I'm in GS with my '89 crx si.

Hi Jason,
I drive a '90 CRX Si in CSP/STS2 and this is how I adjust my car (see mods on F/S link in signature). I would suggest on a dry sunny day adjusting the front shocks full soft and the rears full hard IF you're running similar springs front/rear. The idea here is to set the car up to behave like a rear wheel drive car... the rear slightly "dance" on acceleration.
It will be important to note the car will rotate, so braking straight with a little bit of trail-braking will be necessary... meaning get your speed down BEFORE the turn. The looser set up will alow you to get on the gas sooner in the turn. ROLL ON the throttle (don't mash) as you approach the apex and unwind the wheel at the same time.
However: The most important thing. Find a setting you feel comfortable with and leave it there and learn how to drive the car as it is. This is especially important to someone starting out, so that you're not constantly guessing how the car is going to behave. Try to SHIFT your focus to learning how to drive and not so much on car set up for now.
Hope this helps!

thanks for the advice, I agree with you totally. I think by the next race I'll have the tuning aspect pretty well figured out. I would have never done full soft fnt/ full stiff rear before but that actually makes alot of sense. Do you recommend even with teh 22mm rear sway bar and no frnt bar though? guess illl have to try and figure it out, thanks for all the advice guys.
