All AutoX'er can someone explain to me the difference between
a motocycle helmet and a car helmet? I want one for my road course but since motorcycle helmets have more choices and cheaper. DO anyone know the differences?
thanks

Motorcycle helmets are designed to withstand one major impact from asphalt or something equally angry. SA helmets are designed to bounce around in a rollcage, taking several smaller hits...and they've got a fireproof lining.
Firelining and the visor. That's it.
The visors on car helmets are generally thicker because you can get some seriously mean **** thrown at you by the car ahead of you. While this is not to say that bikers don't get stuff kicked up at them, it's just that a car has the potential to kick up substantially more than a bike.
edit: the above paragraph applies only to cars with no windshield.

You can just use a motocycle helmet... if you do, just get a nomex head-sock. You know the ones that Speedvision GT/Touring peeps wear under their helmets.
IMO, motocycle helmets "looks" a lot better... I love Arai helmets. (who btw should come out with auto helmets... if not already out.)
