Default Civic engine swap -- what are the options? Need the car to be "balanced" still...

Folks,
I've done some searching already, so please don't tell me to search. Let me explain to you my situation first.

I have a '94 GSR 4door. It's fun as hell. I don't drive it much actually, as I have a "commuter" car already. The GSR is usually for weekends (sometimes), but more of a "fun" car and HPDE car. The thing w/ the GSR is that I fricken pay $1k to insure it (full coverage) and I probably drive it less than 3k miles a year.

So, I'm thinking of picking up a Civic for a fun/track car. That way I don't need to buy full coverage on it (they don't get stolen as much as GSRs right!?)

Anyhow, I originally thinking about getting a Civic Si and setting that up. But I know I would want more power. I could do the "normal" bolt-ons and headwork/cams to it (my friend has a VERY streetable CRX Si that puts 130hp to the wheels) But I live in Cali, and smog would be a bitch.

Now then, I'm thinking swap. What could I swap into it? Before you answer, I want to maintain a lot of the "balance" of the car. So weight would be of concern. (so basically nothing crazy!). I want it to be a relatively "easy" swap as well. I don't want to have to change everything.

I was thinking the SOHC Vtec motors from the '92+ Civic Si's. Those should be plentiful as everyone seems to be doing 1.8L VTEC swaps from GSRs. I don't need "mad" power, I just want more power.

So, any suggestions would be welcome. Along with any thoughts on complex this might be.

Also, is a swap easier in an Si? DX? HF? Or shoudl I say screw it and keep the GSR?!

Thanks!

b18a...integra ls... not too much power but in a civic/ crx, definately a good time. plus, its gonna be alot cheaper than a gsr, typer, si(b16) swap. you could also go witht he mini me...i hear those move too. all these motors will "maintain the balance of the car" and be a fun to drive as well. anyways good luck and if u go witht he b series swap hit me up i may be able to helkp you out with some questions (not like they havent all been answered on here anyways)...

Even if you didnt want to go to those kind of extremes you can use a Head off of a 96-00 Civic Si/Ex and do a mini me swap.
THere are alot of write-ups on this swap, and a very noticable increase in power, it would be something that I would look into if I were you!

Mini-me swap? Wow, never heard of that one. I was wondering what people meant when they said "Mini me"

I'll do some searches. What kind of power are we talking about here?

I hate saying this, but maybe a 5g hatch would better suit your needs. A b series swap in those is cake!

I think it's harder to find a g5 hatch. Plus if the steering feels like my GSR, I'll pass. The steering response sucks in the GSRs.

I'm trying to avoid being a money pit. OTherwise i'd just keep the GSR.

Going for a lowbuck weekend/fun/track car.

Hmmm...130 at the fly? Not to be a snob..but that's not too impressive...my friend's CRX has 130 at the wheels...this is w/ the original motor...only mods are basic I/E/H and head and cam work. That's about it. Nothing done to the block at all.

Very streetable too, not a lumpy idle or anything at all. Gets 30+MPG even when he beats on the car. The only thing is it probably won't pass smog. hahahaha

Yeah. That's conservative. You'd do better looking at a SOHC VTEC, or a B16A. They have more potential anyway... and the ZC isn't bad either. There's a lot of stuff you can do. Just search around, and if you want something turbo, look up the user with the name "Abaz".
