my cousin in japan bought me a rare mugen first gen eg6 muffler. i was in japan for the past two weeks and he recently acquired it so i wasnt able to bring it back with me on the plane.
hes gone to ups, fedex in japan and they told him it would cost $800.00 to ship it to me.
i asked my cousin to send me all the measurements and weight so i can see what i can find here.
so just wondering if anyone has shipped something from japan and which service you used to get it to you for a reasonable price. i figure it should only cost $100-$200 at the most to ship it to me???
any ideas? recomendations?
worst comes to worst ill have to take another trip to japan in the coming months and bring it back on the plane...
if worst comes to worse i will have to take another trip in the coming months and bring it back

considering it costs 1000 dollars to ship a whole car over i doubt 800 is anywhere near what it should cost to ship a muffler? but I may be wrong, I wanted to ship a bumper and fedex wanted 140 dollars, then i went to ups and they did it for 23.40 so ask around

800 bucks? damn, that's pretty steep...by chance is your cousin in the military? they have the hook up for shipping stuff back...other than that, sounds like the fed ex dude had his foot on the scale when he was weighing your muffler
good luck

yea im going to send my cousin a prepaid shipping slip, it should only cost about $100.00 to ship it to me.... i think my cousin gave him the market value of the item instead of the actual value he paid for the muffler for the customs portion of the shipping charges.
thanks for the help guys.

go to dhl or fedex int'l air.
Shipping a 120lb. guitar speaker cabinet worth $5000 is only $250, so an exhaust should be considerably less.

for customs you want to say it is a gift or else they will make you pay alot of taxes. It would be cheaper if you got it shipped by boat.

1st. The muffler is NOT rare. Just expensive.
2nd. I ordered mine frome King motorsports. It took forever to get to my place(like a month) and it was only $11 to ship the thing. I got it for a total of $630shipped.
I will be selling mine soon if you want to buy it, and I will save you a boatload of money. I still have all the original Mugen paperwork with it, and the Mugen equipped badge.

I think he is referring to the Original mugen muffler that sits like an EF but is a tear drop design. Not the twin loop that you can now get from king.
