Default looking for a little experience

whats up, i am new to this board, in fact, this is my first post. I have been interested in the import scene for awhile, but until recently, i have owned a ford explorer. Two weeks ago i traded in the explorer for a 2000 honda civic ex 2dr. I love the car, i have so much fun cutting it up with the five speed. Recently i have been scouring the internet, looking for deals on parts. Many times i have come across your forum and found very helpful information. So i decided to make myself known and hope to become a part of the fun. If its not a problem, i have a few questions.

I have been considering an engine swap. I looked at totaljdm/turbo-boost and i saw a nice selection of low milage, used jdm engines. The problem is, if purchase and install an engine such as a b16b, where would i find aftermarket parts that would fit that motor in america such as aem and other brands. I also saw the selection of b18 engines, but i might experience the same problem that i mentioned above. Then i noticed the h22 engines, it seems to be easier to find aftermarket performance parts motors for this engine, seeing that this engine is in a car sold in america. Im still balancing the ideas of b16, b18, and h22 in my head. What im really looking for is an engine with higher baseline hp for me to build with, and an engine that i can easily find parts for without having to pay in yen for. I am leaning more towards the h22 but since you guys are extremely dedicated to this sort of thing, i want to get some of your opinions before i spend mad money. Thank you very much and I look foreward to meeting all of you

hey man, dont worry about finding parts to fit the jdm B-series motors, thats not a problem at all. There are usdm B16's and B18's as well, all B-series motors still share the same common blocks and heads, rather it be a JDM B16 or a USDM B16, meaning that almost any aftermarket part would fit on either motor. You will find however that all of the jdm motors will have higher compression, hp, and tourqe A good place to check out the comparisons between the jdm and usdm motors is http://www.hmotorsonline.com, when you get on the site go to motor mall and you'll see what i'm talking about. I would recomend a B-series swap if you are planning on daily driving your car. Putting an H22 in your car would be alot harder swap, I believe you would have to get the hasport mounts, you would also have to actually cut a hole in your firewall to run the shift linkage, because the H-series use a cable shift linkage and your car was made for a the metal rod shift linkage, im sure thats not all not to mention you wouldnt be able to run a/c with an H22 in your civic, but it can be done. Try checking out http://www.groupbuycenter.com,www.jhpusa.com,or http://www.jdmshit.com, there are plenty more sites out there but thats just a few off the top of my head. I hope that helps out a little and good luck with your swap

Also you can do a search on here on the different types of swaps that you are considering, you may have to search under archieved and you can also check out the archieve at the top of page 1, that should help out alot in making your decision.

thank you very much, i was afraid this post was going to sink straight to the bottom because it had a newbie title. much appreciated. Yeah i would be using it as a daily driver and for now, i just want some baseline hp to build from in the future. thanks
