D-series VTEC vs. nonVTEC dizzy, what's the difference?
What is the difference between a D15B7 distributor and the one on a D16Z6?
Any pics maybe?
And are they interchangable?

VTEC will not engage with the D15B one, unless you modify it (should fit directly on the Z6 head).
Probably much easier and more reliable to get the D16Z6!

the difference between these two is that one is call vtec and the other is non-vtec.
the d15b7 will fit on the d16y8 sohc vtec head though.

You read my mind! I bought a Z6 head with no dizzy, and the one on my B7 is 6 months old.
So it should bolt right on but leave me without VTEC?
Could you explain why VTEC would not engage with the wrong distributor in use?

It's not wired to handle VTEC (The B7 doesn't have VTEC - Right?). I do not exactly know what you need to do to make the B7 distributor work, but as I said.. you are probably better off going with the Z6 distributor.
You should be able to find one at a junk yard or ebay for under $100. Otherwise, try searching to find out how to modify your existing one, and to see if it would work.

****.... I didn't know the distributor had wires for vtec. I thought the vtec wires went straight to the ecu. Could Bauley or someone else please set this thread straight?
ok, the dist. has absoulutly nothing to do with vtec. the b7 will physicaly mount to the head. but only one hole will partialy line up. it all plugs in electrical wise. but you have to cut and grind the end of the posts for it to fit and use big washers. it will work, but looks ghetto as hell. the #'s on the dist. are....b7 is td-41u, the z6 and z1 (vx) are td-42u. the ex,si,and vx will all work the same as well as working on a jdm d15b vtec. hope that helps

he is correct. there is no such thing as vtec dizzy. the harness on the b7 and z6 dizzy are identical, just that the bolt part are different. it dont do anything with vtec kiking in.

yup the z6 dizzy hole pattern is different than the b7. In fact i think its different than all the other d series dizzy patterns correct? I put a built z6 head on a y8 block in a 97 civic ex before and ended up having to modify the y8 dizzy to fit. It was only being held on by one bolt

A6 dizzy will fit on Y7/Y8 and vice versa
B7 dizzy will fit on A6 head and vice versa (pretty sure)

I recently installed a Z6 dizzy onto a 92-95 D15/DX engine, and of course it didn't bolt right up. I had to modify the top mounting hole to make it work on the DX engine.
I'm not sure what other people use to widen the mounting holes on a dizzy when it comes to situations like this, but I found the PERFECT dremel bit that gets the job done real quick.

It cuts through aluminum like a hot knife thru butta.

Not all of them. People will read this and think that their DUAL POINT 88-91 dizzy will work on an EG if they aren't that knowledgeable. Just a heads up.

No that dizzy won't bolt up without modifications. I think it would work but I'm not totaly sure, when I was doing the swap on my friends car we decided to just play it safe and get z6 dizzy for $100 from the same shop we got the motor from.
But I'm pretty sure you can make some custom **** to make it hold on the head better.

A d15b7 dizzy will work with a d16z6 head. you need to line up the top hole to the head then slot another hole and put a big washer and the botl through it to hold it down in place. You will have a shitty range of timing adjustability but it will work. Has nothing to do with vtec, vtec will still work.

the DIZZY has NOTHING TO DO WITH VTEC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
