Cleaning up the engine bay... what goes, what stays?
We're all familiar with cluttered Honda engine bays. And since I'm out of $,...I need something else to doon the car.
I read in another topic that the charcoal filter can go. Also a few coolant lines to the intake TB, wich just heat up the TB anyway...
What goes, and what stays...please specify why, and how!
-Charcoal filter.
How? Just rip it out, and loop the in, and out lines?
-Crank case ventilation on the cam cover.
Rip off hose, plug up air intake, replace on cover with breather filter ($5), or baffled catch can.
-Coolant lines to intake manifold.
How? Wich lines?
-Exhaust manifold heatshield.
Unbolt. (might want to paint manifold with heat resistant paint)
-Y boot connector and "warm" air intake on airfilter box.
Unbolt, and trash.
I'm out of ideas....

u wanna leave that hose on ur valve cover.. ur engine bay will get dirty as **** with out it... even with a filter
it looks better with a line to ur intake neway

you can remove the heat shield and the extra airbox stuff..i wouldnt remove those other things you said,i always remove my horns, windshield wiper fluid bottle and a/c/heater stuff...if you clean your engine bay with water i would be carfeul dont get any electrical stuff wet or your alternator..
Keep all that stuff, it is there for a reason.
There is no point removing all that stuff other than boredom which I would still not recommend doing.

I have nothing on my fender walls except red paint.
Counting the FPR I only have 4 short vaccume lines.
All wires and relays on the fenders have been moved and hidden, fuse box relocated to inside of car on the firewall.
And as somebody with clean bays and breather filters they do not make your bay dirty cause nothing comes out of it except air unless you pcv is bad and they are not unsafe to use.

don't you eliminate your PCV when you apply a breather filter?
insted of dumping the warm gassed air back into your intake it just releases or allows it to breath out into the open air that way your incoming air dosen't become contaminated. this is nice for a heavily tuned all motor application.
and like he said, no they dont make your bay dirty.

i was always curious if u could get rid of the coolant lines to the intake manifold also. my friend has a rx-7 which i know is way differnt than a honda but he eliminated all the coolant lines to the throttlebody and intake manifold, the idle air control valve, coolant overflow tank and so on. im thinking of some way to get rid of the iacvand doin my owwn thing cause i can never get my car to idle right.

i moved my FB to the inside as well.. and ran wiring through the unibody. A clean engine bay is always nicer to work in than a dirty/cluttered one!! If you follow the, it's there for a reason statement, then you shouldn't be touching your car in the first place.

I did that with a few lines.

no. This seems like a common mis-understanding. Nothing COMES OUT of that little tube on the valve cover (that goes to the intake tube). It DRAWS IN air to refill the crankcase area that is pulled out via the PCV valve.

Experimental evidence: I replaced my tube with a clear one and it was quickly coated with a film of oil. Therefore, it must be pulling air from the crankcase, not the other way around.
The tube is supposed to pull out air from the crankcase, but doesn't really even do its job properly with the breather filter. The air rushing by the little tube creates an area of low pressure in the tube, sucking air out of the crankcase.

me too, i did the clear hose also, and although it took it a while to get dirty it's beginning to turn a dark color...so there's some oil obviously goin thru it
maybe when i get lots of time i'll clean my engine bay up
my b16 doesn't idle all that well either, i'm tired of playin w/the idle

Sorry I took so long, I am not even half way done and I still have alot of wiring and coolent lines to clean up(As you can see with some of the exposed wires).
Yes he does run and everything works

And this is what is what I am now building for her

Them are CTR's in there but I got a bigger build planned now

that is one clean engine bay.... wish mine looked as clean but i still don't know enough about the car to start messing with all this stuff... so right now its "its there for a reason dont touch it"
