I need to get my car to pass emmisions soon. I have a high flow "focus" cat that looks like a freakin canister muffler. I believe it is gutted, as my NOx is 3100 and i need 1100 to pass. Is that magnaflow going to be good enough for me to pass? Any other suggestions?

Car is 95 hatch with 98 Gsr, running obd1...

I was thinking about a stock used cat, but i dont know for shure, i can get a low mileage one for like 110, but for that price i can just "buy" an inspection sticker for 40 more bucks and not have to worry about this crap. I am also planning on trading my car soon, so i dont want to drop 150 bucks into a car that i wont have in a month or so....

 

That cat isn't going to last you very long at all... I've heard way to many bad things

if it lasts for 1 day to pass emmisions, ill be happy, will it clean it good enough to lower my N0x and HC's?

 

its hard for a honda to fail emmisions, i roll in with a test pipe everytime and still come out with amazing numbers.

there's dozens of people on this site who have been using carsounds for a long time, you should be fine. The carsounds have a problem with falling apart after awhile if your car is running really rich, but thats about it.

Ok, so it should have enough cleaning power to get me to pass tho right? "The high flow" part of the discription scares me that its not going to be good enough.

I would go with an Oem honda Cat. Honda Cat's are just as free flowing if not better than most of the Aftermarket Cat's out there. Of course there's a few execptions but if I were you I would go with a OEM Honda spec one. Just my .02

Oh yea, by the way my car didn't pass emissions due to the fact that my cat on my Prelude is about 12 years old and I'm going with OEM Honda.

 

how much are they tho, arent they VERY expensive from Honda?

 

my carsound didn't pass, it got the numbers really low, but not low enough to pass. maybe off by .2-.5 on the readings.
after 2 tries i broke down and bought a oem cat, showed the guy my reciept and he didn't even put the sniffer to the tail pipe, go figure

 

buy the sticker. dont buy that cat.. there is no guareentee it will make your car pass.... just by the illegal sticker

They're like a grand, no joke.

This cat should be alright, I would go for it and put some additives in the gas tank you can find at some auto store that will either garuntee or help pass emmisions.

funny... i got my oem cat from hondaautomotiveparts.com for 2 bills...

 

200 is still crazy...i went to emmisions testing again 2day...i used a cleaner and lowered all my emmisions , but its still not good, i am definatly going to need a cat...what 2 do, what 2 do

There certainly are a few exceptions, Carsound being the most notable. Carsound's flow ridiculously better than OEM, and I passed NJ emissions with a 2.5" version paired with a DC JDM 4-1.

 

Dan, taran has a stock oem cat you can use....I mean it came off a crx but it should help you.

Yeah a illegal inspection sticker will defiantly increase the value of my car...

Besides I put a lot of effort into getting my car passed, and im so close, i might as well do it the legal way.

 

its not an illegal so called inspection sticker. its legal . just see what u can work out at a local garage.

 

i can get a legal sticker for you for $100. need a copy of your reg and it will be all set with a 2 year sticker from a garage.

on another note, dont hans your car out.
