4th gen, Ignition control (ICM) problems? Car just cuts off
I was cruising down the highway on the first day of nice weather here in the midwest and my car just cut out totally. 5 mins later started back up. 3 hours later died again, but this time for 2 hours. ITs been doing this on and off for the past couple days. Ive been testing it while its down to see what the problem is. What i found today is that when its dead, if i take a volt meter lead to one of the spark plug wire connections off the distrib. theres no voltage while trying to start. And i know the distrib has voltage cause the cord that tell it to work has voltage. This leads me to believe its the ignition control module or igniter inside the distributor. IF anyone has input on this, let me know.
BTW there is mad oil build up on the bottom of my distrib cap, i guess its possible the seal there is a little messed up, but its been like that for months now.

what do you mean hold the key over? Car will die, and then wont start for at least an hour, once it starts it will drive again for a few hours and then die again.
Im gona replace the ignition control tommorow see if thats the problem, tahts seems to be the general concensus, but if you have any other input ,let me know
