Was flipping through the F1 site today cause i was bored and came across this:

Why did they list M.S. as DSQ when he would have finished second in points that year? I did not start following F1 untill late '99-'00 So is new for me. can anyone explain?

that was the year he drove into Jaques Villineuve in the final race to try to take the championship (he failed, he ended up crashing and not Jaques) When the FIA reviewed it, they DQd him from the entire season.

I was riding on an airplane back to the US from Amsterdam, Holland while the race was being run. They had the race showing in all the bars and shops int he Amsterdam airport and it was standing room only around every TV as it was the last race of the year. It was a mob.
We had to get on the plane and leave before the race was over. Part way through the flight, the pilot came on the PA and said that Schumacher had hit Villeneuve and that Villeneuve was the new champion. There were major "boos" and "yays" from an assortment of nationalities when the pilot announced the results. The Europeans take their F1 seriously.

He was allowed to keep his points, but not his position IIRC. Then the FIA had him do some traffic safety ads. Do a search on google for "Jerezgate".

Cheaters tend to get penalized when they're caught.
