Default whats the differnece between 4th and 5th gen trannys?

well im about to get a tranny swap for my 5th gen ss...

and the shop tells me he's most likely gonna put in a 4th gen tranny...

whats the difference? and he says its gonna be an obd1 which is better...

can you guys give me the heads up about this?

for about $1900

thx

if it's a 4th gen VTEC tranny, it will have better gearing than a 5th gen 5spd. obd1 doesn't concern the tranny. the tranny might have more miles than a 5th gen one...

all f-series/h-series trannys bolt onto f-series/h-series engines. (except s2k ones)

read the essential links for gear ratios. OBD has nothing to do with trannys. It's better because it has better gearing. Make sure you get the right tranny, read the links, make sure the shop doesn't screw you over.

DO NOT DO IT FOR $1900!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you could get a euro for that price, m2b4 trannys go for about $800 and a couple hundred more to install

$800? Local to you? or online?

Everyone else agree that the euro-r is the best way to go?

keep in mind people this guy is going from a SS tranny (auto) to a manual, 1900 is a VERY good price, especially to pay someone else to do it. Think about it, that is for the following

Trans
ECU Change
Clutch Cylinder/Pedal etc
linkage, shifter etc
various other sensors and wiring issues.
