Dual Exhaust on an EK
One of my friends was asking about whether a dual exhaust would affect the performance in a positive way or a negative way. I said that it might take away too much of that backpressure that you need in an N/A motor, but it should be mostly for looks. Can you guys give me some more insight on that?
#1 - there's no such thing as "not enough backpressure" - that's a myth
#2 - The only point of dual exhausts on a honda is for looks. It will not increase engine performance and will degrade overall performance simply due to the extra weight.

Thats true just hurts you there is no point on it since it can never be true duals you have to run a Y pipe which is dumb, i still don't understand why they did it on the S2k just adds more weight. any Inline style motor does not need duals infact it is dumb to do it.

its not backpresssure that is the problem, its velocity. all motors want zero backpressure. but low backpressure usually comes at the expense of exhaust gas velicity, which hurts scavenging big time. that is what causes the loss in low end.
only time u could chose a dual exhuast if u run a Twin turbo setup. but even then u did run a twin turbo setup it wouldnt be needed for dual exhaust just look at the 2 turbo monsters the skyline and supra they both have a single exhaust

Off topic here but, .....funny you say that. I arrived at my shop about 1 year ago. Saw a brand new S2000 w/ hardtop in the garage. It was getting Mugen catback installed. I looked on the inside and saw a radar detector that cost around $500 at that time.
The owner came to pick it up......65 year old.....who was a judge in the municiple court house. LMFAO!

Exactly what is a dual exhaust? is the the endmuffler with two pipes sticking out on one side (my old 91 si had that) or is it the thing with the one pipe left and right? I would like a new end muffler on my ek since i did like the looks of the exhaust on my si ...
so is everyone saying that is not a good thing?

one of my best friends used to know this guy bill who was this like 60 year old guy who was a honda nut like us. he had an s2k and a type r. he had a full suspension on the r with a vortech supercharger and the s2k had like everything done in mugen and spoon. the guy died unfortunately and his daughter sold the R!! too bad im broke. but anyway it just goes to show ya that even the old heads know how to mod a car (not rice), so forget the dual exhaust and save up for a truly functional lightweight single exhaust!

dual exhaust - 2 exhaust pipes coming out the back. In our motors the header turns into a single collector. No TRUE dual exhaust possible when you run this type of header. Somebody mentioned something about getting a header made that only has 2 exhaust ports going into each collector, hence making a TRUE dual exhaust system possible. But 99.99999% of the time you see somebody in a civc running around with a "dual exhaust" system, they took the one pipe and split that into 2 so they can run 2 mufflers out the back. Looks dumb IMO.
