Default Ricey sound

What exactly causes that really annoying ricey sound???? Is it the fact that most of them get a $50 can and weld it on to the stock piping?? I really dont have too much money and I must admit to liking the big angled can look, but i want a deep and clean sound. I was thinking maybe a custom cat back from a reliable shop.. I also don't wanna shell out 500+ for an Apexi N1 system when all i get is aluminized piping that rusts. Thanks for any suggestions and not yelling at me cause i didnt feel like searching

i would suggest getting the biggest resonator you can inline with your piping. should eliminate the raspiness.

R*SR should do the job.

thats the best way to go. you don't need a 500 dollar flashy exhaust, unless your showing your car. So if your not, just do what smart people do.

get the muff of your choice. I like N1 styling.
then go to an exhaust shop that has a pipe bender on site, and have them use a bigger diameter like 2.5".

this should help

full exhaust systems sound 100x better than any custom exhaust i've ever heard on a stock motor or close to stock. with turbo, ect .. custom setups are good, but haven't heard any good custom exhausts on stock motors

im really conflicted about going for the nice subtle looking ws type of muffler or the big n1 muffler sticking out sideways. On one hand i love the way the angled muffler looks, and on the other a stock shitty d-series cant back it up. The thing is i wanna go for a swap and not mod this engine, just save every penny i wouldve spent on the d series for the new one.

well your not running a big boost WRX or anything, so you won't be needing a 3 inch. 2.5 inch will be sufficient

Unless they are planning for a turbo.

just buy new piping when you get the turbo.

if you have money for a turbo, then you could afford new exhaust piping

the 50 bucks exhaust from ebay sound good to me with 2.25 piping and a resonator. most of them ricers sounds are from straight piping with a damn **** up motor and a crappy welding job from tijuana.

The non-raspy non-good-sounding ones are weld on mufflers. For some reason I always notice them the most on automatics. They just sound really pffffffffff instead of bwahhh. Dunno if that makes any sense

I bought a Greddy EVO and don't regret my decision the slightest. Some of my friends did the custom thing and IMO it sounds like ****.

Edit: I think the key lies in the resonator.

could raspiness happen due to having no catalytic convertor at all?

I have a custom 2.5" exhaust from the downpipe back on my Type-S (previous owner did this) and the exhaust is pretty deep. I did however put on a 2' cherry bomb resonator because of the raspiness before. It sounds good now and even better when VTEC kicks in. But too loud in my opinion and my B-pipe hangs a close 3-4" off the ground. Not very good for speed bumps.
