New deck not storing presets and other info
I have a 1991 Integra, and I just installed a Jensen CD player given to me from my roomate. When I tried to install it the power wire coming from the car didn't seem to have any juice coming from it. I don't have a volt checker so I wasn't able to test that. I did check every fuse on the car the one on the back of the deck, and no fuses were blown.
I decided to run a seperate wire from the power wire on the Jensen Harness to the 15a fuse under my dash marked "Radio". This made the radio come on like normal, i.e. when the ignition is turned to the ACC setting.
However once the car is turned off, the radio dumps all data such as preset stations and bass and treble settings. It also ejects the CD once I start the car again.
I know my extra wire isn't the best way to solve the problem, but what else can I do?

sounds like you just tapped into a switched 12v source. the power lead (usually yellow) needs to be hooked up to a constant 12v source. easy fix.
Would that be the "b+ battery" wire I see in my Acura wiring diagram? Thats hooked up to the "b battery" wire.
I'm sure you're right. I just don't have it hooked up to a constant 12v. I've never been good with finding those.

The ignition harness is always the most reliable place to find sources of constant or switch power(unless it is going to an amp of course).
Not to sound like a total n00b (I hate electrical work) but which wire in the harness? I have an Acura Manual with wiring diagrams, I just don't like splicing into wires in the ignition harness. I don't want to mess anything up.

Get a digital multi-meter. You can get them pretty cheap at Radio Shack and Sears. I have got a 300 dollar Snap-On unit, but you probably will never need one that expensive. You will also need a "bed of nails" probe which allows the wire to be probed without stripping it. Looks like you already have a source of switched power, so all you need is constant 12V. All you have to do is find the wire which gives 12V all the time, no matter what position your ignition key is in. Make sure your probe does not contact any metal either. Most ingition harnesses are not fused and YOU WILL weld the probe to your car.To help you find it, the ignition harness should have by far the thickest wires under the dash. Just be carefull and you will be okay.
give me a year, make , model of your car and i can tell yhou a 12v power source you can tap into. i'll get it off alldata or directechs orseomting.

just run a wire straight to the battery like i do
that way you don't need ypur keys to bump AND it is safer to wire stereo as far away from in car wiring as possible, no chance of fire orburning your wire loom or any hazards associated with that ****, lol
