Default B16 block with 1.8 Type-R Internals

I know you can put the 1.8 internals into a B16 block. Is it just like putting a bottom end together? Is there any clearance issues with the head? What are the drawbacks if any. Thanks in advanced for your help

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the B16 head and ITR head are identical, with exception of ports and valve train. and obviously the number. So you should be just fine putting then together

i know the cams will fit. i think there is a clearance issue with the pistons though.

the pistons will work. but you cannot use the crank and rods unless you get a deckplate since the block on a b18c is a little taller than a b16. theres really no point in putting just the pistons in, youll lose compression over stock b16 piston.

No, Custom Pistons and/or rods are needed to run a 87.2mm/89mm crank in a B16 block. Deckplates in my view are a waste of ALOT of money and time and are unnecessary when performing this job. Not to mention they are extremely unreliable and are prone to leaking and causing engine failure. if you want a 1.8 motor and don't have alot to spend, the cheapest route is to actually buy a 1.8L block and work from there.

tech43 has piston kits you can use with the ls crank and rods in the b16a block. looking into it myself. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=815614

Thanks for all the input. I had heard about the B16 block being shorter than a B18 but was under the impression it would still work without a deckplate just a thicker head gasket. Anyone have any more thoughts?

if u just put jdm itr pistons in a b16..compression doesnt even really rise.. in fact..it drops... check out the cal at http://www.c-speedracing.com

I was thinking of using CTR pistons.

what you are talking about doing will cost more than a type block to begin with.

first of all you will need custom rods and probably custom piston with a raised wristpin to do this. aftermarket pistons and rods will run you at least 750 for off the shelf, not to mention that you will need them custom made which makes it even more expensive.

i did the math and it looks as though you will need 8 headgaskets to make the B16 deck the same as a normal B18 deck height.

BOTTOM LINE: if you want 1.8L buy a 1.8 block

This would work with a b16b block, but not a b16a block.

Wait, so you're going to be using 1.8 internals in the 1.6 and you want to use thicker HG or a deckplate.
But you said you wanted 1.8 internals and then said you wanna use CTR pistons?
So p72,73 rods CTR pistons and a p72,73 crank?
Dude that seems like danger zone. - I am selling a GSR crank btw.
The head from the B16 will fit (don't forget that the HG is mated for the block not rh head)
