Lower Ball Joints on Accord
I'm changing CV's on my mom's 96 Accord 4cy. I pop the ball joint, replace the cv, and when I go to put the castle nut back on the ball joint, the whole ball joint stud turns and I cannot get the nut tightened. Do I need a new ball joint? How hard is it to replace? Can I rent the installer/remover from AutoZone, or is it a dealer item?
AN easy fix is to place your jack under the lower control arm to put pressure on the lower ball joint. This should stop it from turning as you tighten the nut.
I used a floor jack and jacked up the car on the lower control arm, but it still spun. I ended up placing a bottle jack inbetween the upper control arm and the fenderwell while keeping the lower control arm jacked up. Worked like a charm!
Too bad I couldnt finish up the job. The junkyard gave me a CV shaft from a 99 Acura CL and promised me it would fit my 96 Accord. Well, it diddnt fit into the hub. It went into the tranny just fine, but would only go halfway into the hub. Back to the junkyard I go.
