Default Squeaky brake pedal, and one other problem

Ok, I have a 99 EX automatic coupe. Every time I press the brake, the car brakes fine, but when I release the brake pedal, it gives a squeak. My brake pads ARE rather worn out, and I will replace them tomorrow; I'll update if the noise improves.

One other problem: I like to have the e-brake up when the car is parked. Every now and then (especially cold weather) when I take the brake down, the light indicating that the brake is up stays on in the dash. It's more of a non-functional nuisance (since the e-brake works fine) but I would like to fix it it all possible.

ok, for the squeaking sound when you release the brake, I have the same sound and am 90% sure its one or both of my rear drum brakes. Theyre getting swapped out to disc anyway this summer so I dont worry about it.

As for the e-brake cable, you might want to check tension, tighten it up. Also, some lubrication or replacement of the line might be necessary. Essentially what is happening is that when you release it, the line is getting caught up somewhere and not loosening the actual ebrake in the back.

Hope this was some help, PM me if you have more questions.

Sweet man, ty. I'll take a look at that e-brake cable.

Now that you mention it, my drums have been acting kind of funny. I think I'm going to swap them out also for all-round discs. Better anyway.

Thanks again for the info.

My car does the same thing, but it's not the pedal . the sound comes from the rear only. sounds like the shoes are bad or a cable needs some lube. It does it especially when it's hot outside.

Bump because I have confirmed what you guys said.

It is the e-brake cable. NOW, the question is, what can I do about it, and HOW??? I looked under the car, have no friggin clue what to grease... any help on that?

ok, your easiest grease check is gonna be on the brake itself, where the cable connects to the brake, that little mechanism. lube that up.

thats what is making the squeaking?

I see. So basically I have to take the wheel off and take a look at it? I'm pretty sure that something there is squeaking because when I pull the e-brake up, it squeaks in the EXACT way that it does when I release the pedal... will grease it today, and update later.
