Fromer ITR owners who turned to S2k Owners...questions
I love my R but the whole thief thing is driving me nuts. Also, it seems like something keeps happening to my R, always one thing after another. My bank account is draining quick. Its nothing huge but all the small stuff adds up fast. I did some calculations...sell my R for about 21-22k. Its in mint conditon and only 83xx miles (yes thats 8300, not thousand). I will prob use 20k as downpayment. Then I figured my monthly payments to be about 250 a month, which I can afford pretty easily. (BTW, i'm a 20 yr old college student working part time). I didn't call my insurance but I assumed S2000 insurance is lower than a Type R, please let me know how your insurance was affected. Oh yeah, I can easily get a great deal on one since the sales manager knows me well (I bought 4 honda's from him in the past year). A couple months ago, i told him i wanted a SI for myself and he said 16.5k out the door, so i know i'll get a sweet deal for the s2000. I just wanted to know if its worthwhile to do this. If i don't do this now, I will keep my R for another year or so, save up the money and just pay the s2000 off at once. (hand dealer check for full amount). Let me know what you guys think. thanks!
I'm in the same situation as you. I am looking to get rid of my 98 R and switch to an S2000. My insurance will be going down by about 850 a yr. and that is going from a 98 to a 01. I am currently in the process of trying to trade (fingers crossed) this guy for his 01 S2000.
For me, the switch will make a more practicial one as I will be less worried about the theft issue, unless there is an isue with the S2000. The trade will also allow me to get the cash out of the R and I won't have to take the time to sell it, not to mention get bent over by the stealership in the process. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

go for it.
You seem to have things figured out. Insurance is insurance, it might be a tad bit less than the ITR but remember the s2000 is classified a sports car where the ITR was classified as high theft probability.

People steal the seats and put them in their civics.

any s2k owners in philly or around in it? i plan on test driving one this weekend to make sure selling my R for the s2k is what i really want. obviously i won't be able to push the s2k nor do i want to, i was wondering if some local owner would give me a ride and sorta show me what the s can do, nothing special just a good ride in the passenger seat is all i ask. pm if you're willing. thanks!
sorry, but i am not in the philly area, but i have owned 2 R's and now own an s2k. i can honestly say that it is more fun to drive than the type r. rear wheel drive, top down sports car.
it does however have its downsides. not much room to haul stuff i.e. (surfboard, i live at the beach).
i am planning on buying a beater hatch to remedy the space issue. if you have the means to own the s2k and a beater car, you will be very happy...

Insurance for the S2k should be lower.

Swtanzracer....I had the same feelings as you. I didn't want to deal with all the hassles and issues with the ITR, but couldn't part with the car. I have 8,900 miles on mine. Love it way too much. Sounds like you have things thought out and numbers worked out. If it all works, and you are going to be happy with it, then do it. I didn't sell the R and I picked up an S2K. Love it too.....two different cars though, but nonetheless, endless fun.
i got an 03 suzuka blue with 6k miles for sale...

tryin to get rid of my 00 si, my monthly insureance goes up 50 bux if i get a 00 s2000.
i know what you are talking about the little things add up. mine is a daily driver so i dont like the little probs it gets to be hassle.
20K down payment
never throw that much down on under 100K cars
cars r bad investment. try to lease a s2000 for liek 48 months nothign down use your 20K to make the payments ahead then buy the car out at the end of 48 months
just my thoughts, seen too many people suffer cuz they were told they needed a large down payment
