Why oh why does 5th still grind!
I just replaced all of my synchros, along with a clutch, and all the fluids. I drive my car around only to notice that unless I shift very softly 5th gear gives me a grinding noise.....AGAIN. This **** doesnt go away. I changed my synchros to get rid of that, yet it still persists!
Anyone have any clue as to why?

did you just replace the synchro ring. because most of the time the synchro itself is not the problem it is the sliders and the engagement teeth on the gears. bent shift forks will also cause a grind.
I was driving and I was tried doing something. I popped my car in neutral while moving like 40, and rev'ed it up to about 7k, and tried putting in 5th gear, and it would grind and wouldnt go in, until the rev's went down to about 3k. Now what if one day i'm on some long straightaway somewhere (uhh, legal) and I reach 5th gear at top speed, it would really suck to try and shift into 5th, only to wait until the engine is spinning at 3k to put it into gear. Would slow me down.

I've got same prob but its my 2nd gear.when i drag the car i have to do it quick n fast so i wont really hear the grind but would almost hear somethin like i have a turbo or a BOV when i hit 2nd. but when i do normal driving from 1st to second i would have to wait till i hit back down to 2k-3k on RPM then shift. I have thought it was the clutch but then i guess i was mistaken.. So is it really the syncross ro somethin? can i have more info about this please! someone help me. I jus got my car its my first 5spd thats why. my second car from a galant ,auto.

agent ut, have you double checked to see if the shift linkages aren't
rubbing aganist anything? last time i had the clutch replaced, it was having
trouble going in second, turned out to be something simple like the linkages
rubbing against something. I suggest you take it back to the person you had
work on it for you and see what they say. If worse comes to worse, you can
put in gm synchromesh and hope for the best

Alright, this is really ******* weird.
I took my car out for a spin just now and every gear works perfectly. Not one grind from 5th gear, and I tried rev'ing it to 7k and shifting. Works perfectly. I suppose the MTF settled in, because I know it takes a little for the fluid to settle.
But now, I can't shift into reverse. This was the SAME problem before we changed the synchros, and now it's here again. I CAN'T GO INTO REVERSE. I swear to god this car is pissing the **** out of me. Anyone have an ideas as to why the piece of crap wont shift into reverse?

what year is it? i read up in a site about the 97 model that the 5th gear had taht problem coming out of the factory the way i believe the 00,01 s2k grinds 3rd i believe or 2 one of the gears. i doubt you can fix it. just a **** up in Honda.
hey man i had this same problem for a while grinding in 5th an no reverse...it sux to have to pull your car backward all the time not having reverse...one thing,your TRANNY is going out...trust me mine did...got a new clutch flywheel everything,an still did it all sycros an all,still did it...your tranny is going out quick...so instead of buying one tranny ive got 2 now,just incase this **** happened again...but if you wanna go with a new tranny man,remember i have a extra one now..ill give you a deal on it if you want it 325shipped..i payed 300 for each of them...had mine in for bout 7 months now an havent had any problems,both were checked an ran for any problems..
