GSR or SI Tranny for my B18B????
which tranny will be more responsive on my B18B block the GSR or the SI ??? alot of people debate that the GSR tranny is better all around than the SI but id rather ask the honda guru's on honda-tech that can help me
I've got a GSR tranny for sale. Its a great tranny and doesn't grind! The gear ratio's are a great compromise between the b16/R and the LS transmissions. Also, one thing I like is that in 5th gear, RPM's are an even 500 for each 10mph...so its easy to calculate your speed when your speedometer is already maxed out! not that i've been 7600rpm's in 5th before...

my brother has a gsr tranny on his ls. i like the gearing on his tranny better then my si tranny. but i would have to agree your gonna top out real early on an si ,and your gas mileage will be pitiful.

Why put such a short final drive with taller-spaced gearing? Makes no sense to me.
I had an ATS 4.929FD in my old Type R tranny with a GS-R .787 5th gear - now THAT **** was tight.
I say get the Si tranny. GS-R trannies gears are too tall and they make the rpm drop to much between shifts. **** all this "LS motors are torquey and you want taller gears" bullshit. The Si tranny is better IMO.
This is coming from someone who owned a GS-R swap with GS-R tranny for a few years while alkso owning a B16A2 swap with Si tranny. While he GS-R romped the B16A because of sheer torque and more power under the entire rpm range, the Si tranny would have been bad-*** on the GS-R engine.
An LS engine doesn't make enough power and torque to justify trying to go with taller gearing. Not even on mild boost would I ever trade short gears for taller gears.

Uhhh no you won't!!!!!!!!!!!! missinformation on this board is rediculous!!!!
B16 tranny is the only way to go

IMO... SI alll they way.... the SI have better gear ratios for an all motor .. or lowerer power car.. the gears are nice and short... if your boosting the car and its producing alot of power then i would go for the GSR tranny for it's longer gears.. you'll def see greater response with the si tranny

And where do you need to run 120-130? You won't get that fast on a track with a B18B - and if you're doing it on public roads you're a fucktard.
I would personally rather have the GSR tranny for a daily driver - but that's just personal preference.

Hey bro you'll know if I'm attacking you. Lighten up.
Also something I've noticed:
What's with the "daily driving" prerequesites for a tranny choice?
Stock Si/Type R trannies are just fine for daily driving. Don't get lost ion the "lower the rpm, the better the gas mileage" stuff that so many people base their opirions of a 5th gear final drive combo. An LS engine with an Si tranny would be totally fine even for highway driving.
Unless the gearing is short enough to be in VTEC at 80mph, I don't think I'd want longer gears.

Si has the same 4.400Fd as the USDM Type R.
If you meant the 4.78 '98 Spec JDM Type R final drive, then that'd be pretty cool. The only way it would suck is if someone had a low VTEC point such as 5000rpm or so. The 4.78-equipped Type R trannies have a GS-R=spec 4th and 5th gear in them stock. Honda did this to keep hwy cruising rpm the same as the 4.400 trannies.
The Si and USDM ITR both have the .848 5th gear. If one wanted a bit lower rpm in 5th gear, he'd probably want the GS-R spec .787 5th gear in an Si tranny with a 4.78 if he did a lot of highway driving. This way you would not be in VTEC at 80mph or so.

If u want to compromise acceleration a little for a higher top speed and for highway cruising, go 4 the gsr tranny and if ud rather have the accelration go 4 the si. I'd go 4 the si cause i dont go anywhere near top speed on the streets
I'm pretty sure you guys are all talking about manual transmission, but what about auto's? Do they even have auto's for the gsr or SI? I'm kind of wanting to do the same thing ls motor with a gsr tranny but i'm researching.
