Default Sony Xplod Headunits

I know that Sony Xplod sucked *** before, but how are they now? Have they changed? Just asking because I think some of their new decks look sweet.

I'm on my second xplod HU now. Never had a problem. My friend has had two of them aswell, 1 the same as 1 of mine, the other was one with the FBP (flat black panel) and was pretty cool until stolen, hehe.

Their head units have always been good, it's their speakers that sucked. I used to have 2 xplod 10" subs and now I have 1 12" mtx, I tell ya, the mtx sounds a bazillion times better, haha.

Sometimes the settings are like a 6 button combo for 3 seconds or something, so it's kinda confusing, so they're probably there, just hiding. I know on my first Xplod head unit it took 3 buttons being pressed for 3 seconds to set the clock, haha.

That new deck is sweet. It's actually got an AV input on the back so you can hook a DVD player or PS2 directly up to it. The screen is a little squashed, though, but it's still a direct connect. Definitely cool in my book....

Yeah, I think you're right on that one. I would never buy their speakers, amps or subs.

they dont have as many features as other decks. there built equalizers are rather primitive, that one in the picture also istn XM or Sirius compatible, and it doenst have 4v pre-amp outputs. stick to alpine or pioneer for quality...

On their website, it says it's XM ready and it has 4v f/r/sub pre-outs.

I never really understand why people say Xplod sucked. There was a few marks on the HU because I didn't take good care of it. And the buttons felt a bit cheap. But the performance was at a fair price. I loved my Xplod until it got stolen. (pro job - so he must like it too.)

If you've ever had to do warrenty swaps at a store that sells them, you'd have a similar opinion.

IMO anything by Sony (car audio wise) is crap, with the exception of the Moble ES series. Those ExPLoDe series just seem to be all flash, and no quality.

has anyone installed the xplod head unit in a EK hatch?
i saw someone had one installed in one and it stuck WAY out. are they flush with the rest of the trim or do they stick out?
I used to have a mobile ES head unit in my old EG and it sounded great. i wonder how the xplod is.

sony HUs are OK...they do their job. not exceptional or anything. and they really aren't to 'customizable' when it comes to sound settings. IMO, i think they're all show and no go.
subs and amps on the other hand...WTF WAS SONY THINKIN?!

I have owned my sony cdx c6800x for 4 years now and I don't have a single complaint. It doesn't skip, plays CDR-s perfectly, is easy to use, doesn't overheat, has great radio reception and the face plate removal system is nice and sturdy. The fine-tuning is minimal but thats what crossovers are for.
I'm quite fussy about my system so if I didn't like it I would just buy another head unit.

I'm buying an Alpine CDA 9815 now but thats only because the Sony is starting to become dated and the Alpine has time alignment.

I had a sony deck about 4 years back and I never had any problems with it. I have never heard any of their speakers sound better than beating my ear against the wall. Pioneer decks are my deck of choice now.

looks aren't everything. you can get much better for your money. Ive had but problems with them in the cold. If it got too cold, none of the buttons would work. Ive never had that problem with and other headunit.

Does anyone here actually have this deck? I would love to get some feedback from people who own it.

yeah i was looking at this too. right now its a toss up between this and the new pioneer head units but i have to say the display on this is much better than what you can get with the pioneer. it might seem dumb but i like the idea of being able to add your own pictures in there...
