Default So my Type R caught on fire today.....

I was putting the ECU back in and I must have grounded a wire accidentally by bolting it down...next thing I know smoke is billowing out of the dash like mad...I finally figure out what is happening, and take the ecu out fast as possible.

it's too late in the day to find out just how extensive the damage is....

Good news is....the car still starts, and idle's fine. the carpet is fine as well, just the padding is burned.

Bad news is....I'm not sure what this wire goes to yet, but it burned a lot of other wires on its way to hell.

so I guess I'll be pulling the dash this weekend.

Hmmm...the flaming R.

Not enough people on Honda-Tech flame you, so your car decided to pick up the slack.

Damn, that sucks. Glad you were able to find the problem quickly. Image if you went inside, and didn't realize it..

Damn. I thought I had it bad when installing a distribution block in the R when (after installing 2 gauge wire to battery early) touched the block to the chassis and burned the **** out of it, not the mention a loud noise and narrowly escaping a little jolt.

My story pales in comparison, but good luck on the wire surgery!

i know that they're just machines, but i swear, it's beginning to look like cars just don't like you antonio...

sorry to hear about your pyro mistake.
i'm sure you'll have it back to normal quickly.
it's the smell of smoke that'll linger in the interior for the next 3 years.

the wire wasn't part of the harness, it was separate, I ran out of daylight but it traces all the way be hind the gauge cluster somewhere. I think it will probably end up being part of the alarm or something.

lol....let me catch you guys up.....I sold the wrx like almost a year ago....i bought an eclipse gsx to get me by....came across a 97 itr that I picked up a few weeks ago.

everything depends on what happened behind that dash....there is such a cluster of wires there could be big damage, or hardly any damage....
find out this weekend...yay!
