Does H1 cars have a place to race

ITE is a regional class and rules vary from place to place. An H1 Honda is not guaranteed to be legal in ITE (or SPU either).
So, if you want to race in more than one place, be very careful about what car and class you choose to race.

From what I've been told, H1 would not be able to compete in ITE. For it to compete in ITE, you would need a Grand Am, or World Challenge Log book. So, if you look at the World Challenge PAST rules, it does not require a fuel cell but highly suggests it. But then again, most regions really doesn't care as long as no one protests you. As for SPU, it really depends as well. Yes, a H1 car can compete in the class....but if you look at the rules closely...there are some gray areas.
Answer...Yes and No.

We have run the S2000 in SPU with the WDCR (MARRS). The only issue is that there was only one other SPU car. You will need to meet all of the Production requirements to run SPU, so check the GCR carefully.

We had heard that as well, but both are in the MARRS I supps (http://www.wdcr-scca.org/pdfs/2004-M1-Supps.pdf) and we talked to WDCR officials and they said that was just a rumor.

And if you ran SPU you would probably be in the run group with the GT1s. It can be a little disturbing having two ex-trans am cars split you down the straight at 165mph.

Hi Jason
I've heard nothing of such rumors so I suspect that's exactly what they
are...RUMORS!
See you at the Track!

I heard rumors of the SPU/SPO classes not being allowed a group at the
MARRS races, however I do see the group listed on the sups. Is there
going to be a SPU class in the MARRS series.
Thank You,
Jason Meise

GT-1 runs with SPO - most of the cars in our run group are fairly equal - the F Prods are about 1.2 seconds a lap faster than us.

Pete,
I too was under the false impression that SPU/SPO had been done away with.
Would my car fit this class (not that it would be competitive) ? It's a GSR tub but with slower LS mechancials (gearbox and engine).
My car is a 96 Integra but only classed in SSC. To run it in ITS I would have to put the correct engine and gearbox back in which isn't an option since I am running H4 this year.
Regards,
Jon

Jon-
To be 100% honest with you, the rules don't seem to be very well defined. The main distinction seems to be around the engine size and you are fine there. You need to meet all of the Production requirements with the main emphasis being on the roll cage, fuel cell and fire system. The GCR vaguely touches on SPU/SPO, but defers most of the specifics to the region that is hosting the events. Jason has exchanged several e-mails to ensure we are in full compliance. I can get together with you off-line and get you copies of all of those.

Pete,
Let's talk at the next HC race. We can exchange ideas. So judging from your statement a fuel cell is required (don't have one yet)?
Is there a specific contact for SPO/SPU within our region (DC) or do we talk to the overall head of tech or competition?
Look forward to getting more info from you on this class. It would be place to race the car, even if uncompetitve, and keep my track license up to date.

Andrie, if you want to come up to race with us at Portland, Pacific Raceways, Spokane, or Mission in BC, you can run in SPU with Conference (ICSCC).

I do believe a fuel cell is required.
Jason has been exchanging e-mails with Gary D'Abate. I have never talked to or met Gary, so I don't really know what his function is within SCCA. I tend to handle the NASA stuff and Jason handles the SCCA stuff.
It would be nice to get a few more SPU cars out there so that points actually count. There was only one other car out there when we ran.

i actually wondered this myself and call my local chapter of scca and asked them if it was possible to compete in ANY class if i have a motor swap, they told me no, they also told me that they wouldn't even let me go to a school w/ the swap. not sure if this apples to all scca regions but i'm in va and that's exactly what they told me.
Andrie,
In Az we can run H1 or H2 cars in Radial Sedan which is a regional catch all class like ITE but doesn't allow power adders. A well biuld H1 car would kick butt at least in AZ. My H2 ITR would be a little heavy and slightly under powered, but I am going to go that route this fall as I slowly biuld my ITR into H1 even though I'm running H1 locally due to the earlier season bump due to the Motons. I think the Sopac region runs RS. I'm not sure if they allow engine swaps though??
