Default LS/VTEC...in reverse?

ok so a lot of people are putting vtec heads on ls or crv blocks...nothing new. What I'd like to know is has anyone successfully put an LS head on say a GSR or TypeR block? Without anyone saying why the hell would you wanna do that or youre stupid for even thinking about it I just wanna know if this could be done and I'll get into my reasoning later, thanks

ive done it but never drove the car, only started it up,let it idle for a while and revved it up.Than let it sit for awhile and took it out(no reason). You have to tap plug the vtec oil feed hole in the block, relocate the dowel pins from the intake side of the head to the exhaust side, and use a vtec head gasket and gsr timing belt. Its that easy.We did it because we had a spare gsr block and a spare ls head, and the race car was just sitting there all lonely. It idled and revved smoothly. No oil or coolant leaks either. You do not have to run the oil feed line to head, just in case your wondering(no vtec!)

basically why i would want to do it would be when i get my project civic or integra hatchback i would build up an LS to boost but the LS stock redline is relatively low to run a big T4 turbo on. so i figure if i could get the redline up higher it would max out the turbo more. i know you can go and increase the revability of an LS block but if you start with a platform that is already better youre one step ahead. and even if i decided to keep it all motor i just dont like vtec

go LS/VTEC, or straight B18C. For the price your going to pay for a B18C shortblock youll be able to go LS/VTEC (if you already have the LS block) for about the same price. The difference in engine geometry when calculated in terms of rod angle and piston speeds is very nominal between the LS and GSR. The LS Bottom end has been proven solid to over 10K with forged internals.

i was wondering about this a while back too. i figures if a LS can go vtec can a gsr go non vtec. i wouldnt do this, but i was just wondering if it has been done before and how does it perform.

I don't see anything wrong with the LS/VTEC reversal. Especially, when considering a racing engine build. Many road-race cars out there have removed the VTEC function. B18A/B head will need to be reworked in order to flow more, but the revability of say the B16A could make a decent package.

BTW consider the ppl that want to drive their cars while there VTEC head is being shipping to somewhere to be reworked. Dropping the LS head could be an option to prevent downtime.

So, quit with the "wHy woUlD dO that, hhaahellk". Damn children. Be constructive, otherwise don't post.

might not be a bad idea i have tons of b16 blocks no b16 heads and tons of b18b heads no block. but hmmm this gives me and idea on how to get rid of these motors, and also i def understand your point the b18c block is def a way better block if your staying non vtec than the b18b, this is def a good idea to build a strong non vtec motor, of course the head would need some work.

well of course you would need to upgrade the cams, springs and valves to handle the high rpm or boost, but I would think it would cost as much if not more to get an LS block up to where its as good as a GSR block
