Vigor auto 'box reliability...???
Hi all,
I am looking at buying a 2.5l Vigor (the JDM version available here
in New Zealand).
The local Honda dealer here seems to think that the auto
transmission is a weak point in these cars. Apparently, you need to
drop the front subframe and engine/gearbox to swap it out- a major
job.
So... does anyone have any comments on the reliability of these
boxes? The Honda dealer tells me that he has seen them fail after as
little as 60k miles.
Also, does anyone know of a downloadable workshop manual for these
cars?
Appreciate any feedback, thanks.

Personally, i thought that the Vigor Auto tranny was one of the best that honda made. My vigor had enough power with the Auto tranny to break traction switching to second gear and i had no problems with it the 2-3 years i have had it. I recently talked to the new owners and they just clocked 240K on the car!!! No tranny problems or any problems so far!
Thanks, everybody.
Apparently the 'box in question "flares" between 2nd and 3rd on the
upshift (according to the transmission guy who looked at it). I
guess he means the revs rose slightly as it shifted up. Apparently
it only happened once, and he couldn't reproduce it. Does that ring
any alarm bells with anyone? Fluid is clean and nothing appears to
be slipping.
If nobody thinks this is bad, I might be forced to buy the car... oh
no...

i have a 92 vigor with 268,000KM!!! the transmission shifts and changes into gear without any hicups or any noise. the car still has that "pull" feeling when u give her gas and the pull is pretty nice for an automatic car (thank the I-5 motor).
the only thing is, and its common with ALL Vigors is that the shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear isnt too smooth. that was the downfall of the tranny, it doesnt have the smoothest shifting.
other than that, the engine is BULLET PROOF!!

My friend has a 92 and his tranny has a problem, its a little ruff when shifting 1 to 2 gear. The problem like this for the past 4 years, he has over 165000 miles on it.
