Default What is "liquid gasket"?

I read about "liquid gasket" in Helms and I don't know how to imagine it. Is it some kind of grease, that stays as liquid all the time, or some kind of silicone, that is liquid in the bottle, but after applying (cca 30minutes) it looks like a rubber, so it's not liquid anymore?

They use it for example for a coolant drain bolt on the block: "Apply liquid gasket to the threads, then tighten it..."

Thats exactly what it is, its not exactly liquid but more like a cream, you apply it where needed and it will turn into a rubber seal. Its used for example on your valve cover gasket and such.

Available at your local hardware store.

So it's something like this silicone, used for bonding of aquariums, basins, etc:

Its should say liquid gasket, not silicone. Its used primary for autos.

it's this paste stuff you apply to the area that seals like a gasket.

ive found honda bond to be cheaper, they give you the part number in the helms manual, and i just looked it up on slhondaparts.com and hparts.com and got it there, works great, and seems to dry alittle harder and less rubbery like than rtv..

plus it smells better

Hondabond is better than anything to seal! but it's nasty to remove. RTV will usually work just as well. With hondabond, it's adheasion coefficient is greator than it's coheasion coefficient, which means when you try to pull it off a surface it tears through itself, and dosn't pull off the surface it sealed against. That's why it creates such a good seal! But in reality, all you have to do it seal the joint, so RTV is just as good!
