Default $1500 to spend

hey ive got $1500 to spend off an insurance claim. im gonna stay all motor and im gonna stay with my B16 so i dont wanna hear anything about swaps or mini-me swaps.

anyway im debating on what i should buy. my first choice was Skunk2 stage 2 cams, springs, retainers, and a header. then maybe sometime down the road ill get pistons to up the compression. my second choice was pistons, header, exhaust, and other little bolt ons.

anyone have any inputs as to what i should do???

a really good header like hytech or smsp. that will help you out a lot with future mods

I know you said all motor, but you could build a decent turbo setup for that much money and have a lot higher gains. If you are detemined to stay all motor, go with i/h/e, cams, springs and retainers. Maybe a VAFC too if you can afford it.

$800 - cams

$250 - header
$500 - exhaust
---------------------------------
$1950

those are all Inlinefour prices. if you know anywhere cheaper (besides ebay) then let me know.

Dude $400 for springs? You must be looking at skunk....IMO, go with Portflow on ILF's site, $200, they'll handle just about any cam u throw at them.

Cams, go with CTR's, get some cam gears, and have them tuned all for under $800....

As far as exhaust, personally I think aftermarket exhausts are overpriced, and sold just by the name. Any muffler shop will mandrel bend a pipe, throw on a muffler you can get for $200, for around $150 w/labor.

As for header, DC makes a nice 4-1 header for around 3 hunnet, one of the better ones in that price range.

hth

the 400 is for springs and retainers. ill check out portflow though.

why the CTR cams over Skunk2. i was just wondering if i should consider crower so now im down to 3 types of cams.

your right about exhaust and i can get the 4-1 DC for about $250

The thing is for the price of the skunk cams, the money can be spent on other mods to make up for the difference in HP, ie a type r intake manifold, or VAFC. There isn't really much of a difference in HP between the 2 that I'm aware of. ITR's have nasty midrange.

Just get the intake cam. The CTR exhaust cam isnt much different than the stock b16 one, all the power comes from the intake. Thatll only run around 3 hunnet bills, then get cam gears, advance it 2 or 3 degrees....instant 3 or 4 ponies on top of what the cam will give u.

heres a link to a spring test on b-series. as you can see, the portflows held up to everything they tested, and the price is excellent.......

i second this.....

just no money left for an exhaust though also look at headertech/anr for that price. im also happy with the performance of my 10-94 header but i doubt ill get much support on that one

That's what I would do too. Find a nice used gsr or itr shortblock and slap that in, and still have some cash left over for some bolt on's.

well im up **** creek. the bank wont sign over the check until the car is already fixed.

the only damage you can see is the bumper overlaps 1/2 in one corner so im trying to think of a way to make them think the car is fixed without it being fixed.
