what is the performance difference between the 98-up jdm N3E tranny vs. the 4.4 J4D final drive tranny. i know that the 4th and 5th are gsr ratios on the N3E tranny but what kind of advantages would you gain from having a 98 jdm 4.7fd tranny compared to an 4.4 final..what tranny do you guys prefer for 1/4 mile purposes?
are gsr tranny good for the 1/4 for all motor??/ where at least you got to shift into 4th??? i had a usdm type r which broke and i was going down the track in 4th, but now i put a b16 and i'm going down the track in 3rd... which pisses me off, b/c my 60' is now a 1.9-2.0 before i would pull a 1.7-1.8 so now i have a gsr tranny w/ lsd, will it do better than the b16? or no?

The USDM ITR and all B16A tranny's have the same gear ratios. Your 60' was probably slower due to the lack of LSD.

the best combo.. is N3E transmission with J4D 4th Gear... the ratios on the 2 4th gears are different. J4D is a little shorter.. thats what i run in my won race car right now until i can afford a custom gear box.

I would like to ring in on this discussion with a question of my own regarding the 4.7 Final Drive. I am looking at replacing the stock 4.4 Final in my 99 Civic Si with a JDM 4.7 Final and a Quaife LSD at the end of this year (I have other commitments now preventing me to do this in the near future). The car is mainly street driven but does see a few track days now and then. It is N/A and plans are to run a mild setup with cams, pistons, headwork, etc. for a desired goal of 190-200whp (which is currently on hold right now). In researching this I have been wondering about a possible setup I am considering: would the addition of a close ratio 1st gear (the one in mind being a 3.077 from ATS) plus the JDM 4.7 Final and Quaife LSD be too aggressive of a gearing for a mainly street driven car that sees alot of stop and go traffic with some moderate interstate driving? Or would just the 4.7 Final with a Quaife LSD be a more appropriate setup for such a vehicle. Just curious. Thanks.
i know the 96 is 4.4 but my tranny says n3e not j4d but they told me it was 96 could they be wrong, are all n3e's 4.7? i really dont want to crack the case and count the teeth, thanks.
'96 spec tranny with the 4.785 or the ATS 4.929 installed in it, you get better gearing through all of the gears. I'm currently running a UDSM itr tranny with the JDM 4.785 FD, wouldn't want to change the gears unless I went to a 4.929 FD.

wow, thanks man. I guess the 4.7 FD is going off my list of important mods.
