Default Question on TWO Bottom Tranny Bracket

Hi guys, I was wondering if it was necessary to install the two bottom bracket that bolts from the bottom of the block to the Flywheel Dust Cover to the Tranny. Do we really need those two bracket?

I will have all five mount in, so I am just wondering if I need the bracket also.

I would say keep em... They are there for a reason and that reason is to increase structural rigidity between the motor and trans. I would NEVER remove these. The 1/2 lb you are gonna save in weight isn't worth the headache of trans bolts snapping off in your block, but thats just me...

I would keep it as well. If you are worried about saving weight, there are better places to start.

I would keep them if I had them.. My Swap did not have it along we a shiet load of other stuff... but that's a different stories..

Majestic Honda wanted 25 buck a pieces for them, so I just thought perhaps i can pass by a few months without them until I can afford it.

I had the mounts until I went turbo and broke both driver's side mounts at the same time, then I switched to hasport mounts and never put the small mounts back on

you need them...

just like how you need dowel pins....sure it's easier to install without, but what's the long term damage.

I guarantee....you put on the bottom brakets, you will see the tranny be pulled in tighter to the engine.

anyone have a pic of these? Trying to figure out if I have them or not. Or, just the graphic from Majestic Honda would work, too.

use them if you can.
without them you are asking for tranny failure if the tranny flexes too much under load and comes out of axis from the block/crank/flywheel/clutch.... mn its trouble down the line.
you can find these braces for cheap and used, online here.

*actually the ITR and CTR have a cast aluminum one-piece brace that replaces the two L-braces and the dust cover tht are found on the B16,B17,B20 and other B18's.

I would assume it is better if it came on the CTR and ITR. If not, Honda would have used the same braces as the rest of them.

96 b18b1 w/ y21 hydro tranny...i was able to get the two tranny stiffeners from the b18b1 for free figuring it didn't matter as long as they cam off a b series, but they dont really fit. the bracket will line up to the bell housing on the tranny or on the block but not both, the bolt holes are about 1/2 inch off (about that its been a little while since i've been under there, so i really dont remember). i was thinking about picking up some 99-00 civ si tranny stiffeners but was afraid i would have the same problem....i know alot of people have this combo so i was curious what people have done...or if they just ditched'em

/\/\ hmm, I'm surprised there is a problem, I'd be even more surprised if the bolt patterns were different between B18C and B18/B blocks near the oilpan on the block surface where the stiffneres bolt to. there has never been any mention of it on lsvtec swap info pages like c-speedracing or hybrid.

perhaps you have some non-new-style-B-series pieces?
maybe from a B20A early prelude?
--->stumped....

i suppose its possible that i got some odd ball stiffeners, i did get them at a junk yard no certainties there

as soon as i get my new cat i will be putting a itr header on my si so i'll see how those b16 stiffeners match up to the b18b stiffeners (?) i have and see if those sit any differently....
