Default anyone ever hooked up a computer to a lcd tv

Has anyone ever put a computer in their car and hooked it up to one of those visor tv things? I was thinking about doing this, I could put a wireless network on it and load a ton of songs on it, and also you could hook of a dvd rom drive so it could also function as a dvd player.

Just wondering if anyone has ever done something similiar.

Thanks

well you have two options, run the laptop straight up and then hook up the audio to the headunit's inputs, ooorrr if you have an LCD already, you need a good graphics card that will allow you to split the picture to the other screen. Most of them have a TV out port or some type of monitor out port on the card...

I honestly would get a stand and keep the laptop hooked up...usually bigger screens and cleaner images than a lot of LCDS...Hooking up the audio is cake...all you gotta do is get a 2 to 1 audio wire then connect it to the headunit...

It's easier than it seems...

I'm not getting a laptop, I'm custom making a case and buying all the components and building a computer, it will only cost around 350 and will have a 1.7GHz processor 40g hard drive, 256ddr ram, I couldn't get a laptop for near that price, your suggestion is what I was planning on doing, I just wanted to see if any one else has tried it

Hey,
I was thinking of doing the same thing but don't have an LCD yet. You'll need a touch screen lcd or a wireless mouse or some other type of controller to control it though. MediaEngine <http://www.mediaengine.org/> is some good software to start out with. I was planning on doing the same thing with the wifi card and having it auto sync with my desktop when it got in range so that i could have the newest songs i've downloaded in sync with the car. In doing some research you'll need a different power supply or something that detects when you turn your car off and sets the comp to shut down after 15 seconds so it doesn't kill your battery.

if you are going to get a touch screen get the liliput one it seems to be the best if not you can get one of those touchpad mouses like on a laptop and mount that somewhere. currently installing one in my uncles 03 porsche boxter. using blue tooth to connect wirelessly and transfer data it also syncs up with his sony ericsson t616 and his cell phone can control the computer functions.

oh, dude i thought you meant a laptop, but an actual setup, that would honestly be hot...I havnt seen someone do that yet...But that should be just as easy as the laptop...I hook my computer to my home TV. The car TVs should be the same... As someone suggested before, you should get one of the touchscreen LCDs...

If you do it, i would congradulate cuz that sounds real cool and original...

those prices arent too too bad...I might have to make that my next project...They make those tiny see-through Cases...That would be really tight...

I'm curious to how jerm is gonna set his up...

I'll have enough money to start the whole thing at the end of the month, I'll take some pictures as I'm working on it
