Default 2002 Accord side air bag light ?'s

Hey Guys,

I'm running into a situation where the side air bag light comes on and off. I honestly do not know why, but when I called the dealer and ran it by them this is what they said. Has anyone had this problem? I did not find any recalls regarding the air bag sensor.

This is what the service rep said the cause of the light going off.

"if you put anything ON the passenger seat, the air bag sensors will sense that there is something on the seat that is to small for the air bag to support it will trigger the sensor, that's why it flashes on and off"

Thanks

That is correct. The OPDS (Occupant Position Detection Sensor) is basically a small radar unit that detects how the passenger is positioned in the seat. It disables the side airbag if it detects that someone is sitting in the deployment path of the air bag or they are under a set size. It can also false code if you have a high level of moisture in the car.

happens all the time, when the passenger lean forward to get something in the glove box, when you put like a bagpack on the passenger seat.

I have a 00 Accord and it happens cause of all the reasons stated above and make sure your gas cap is on tight. The light in me car always comes on when the passenger is leaning toward the door more or reaching for the glove box.
